I don't think they are.  If done right I think they can look very elegant.  I decided not to do them and rented the Chivari Ballroom chairs.

We never really wanted them, but we used them because they were included in the reception hall's package. If we had to pay extra for the covers, we would've just used whatever chairs they had available.

I've never given two thoughts to what kind of chair I'm sitting on at a wedding. Plus, looking at my photos, I can't really even notice the chair covers because the people seated in them takes all viewer's attention.

I just wasn't sure if they look dated or not.

If done properly they can be very nice but the "standard" ones don't do anything for me so we decided not to have them, the chairs in our room are very elegant and I just don't see a reason to cover them up with white sheets.

No I don't think they look dated. I think it all depends on the look you're going for and what the chairs look like in your venue.

i think it also depends what the chairs will look like if you aren't using covers. it all depends on your vision and style. The chair covers are included in our venue pricing but I haven't looked at the choices for colors/fabric etc... if they are white it might be a problem since my colors are mainly espresso and gold and pops of burgundy and deep amethyst in the flowers... i guess i will have to just wait and see at out next meeting with the venue!

I think it depends on the room and overall look.

I didn't care for chair covers at my venue and opted for chivari chairs instead.

I heard that while they may look nice initially, once the reception gets going, the covers end up looking like wrinkled sheets, half on the floor, and definately not worth the extra money.

If anyone is noticing the chair covers during the middle of the reception, it must be a pretty terrible wedding.

    Maybe it's just me, but I don't notice much at that point. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-tongue-out.gif" border="0" alt="Tongue out" title="Tongue out" />
