Flowers

I hate flowers....

Okay, I don't hate flowers, but I don't want them anywhere in decorations, maybe even not bouquets. Does anyone have suggestions for an alternative to flowers? Part of it is the price, but my FH and sister and I, as well as many guests have bad allergies and I do not want to be stuffed up, sneezing and all icky on my wedding day. My sister is going to be a bridesmaid and most of the rest of my bridesmaids also have allergies. So...any suggestions?

Re: I hate flowers....

  • I have seen some photos of wedding where the BM's all carried pinwheels, fans, pretty clutches, parasols, bibles, or succulents. Personally, I agree with you on the cost of flowers, its ridiculous to pay that much for a few hours, then they die after a few days. My Bm's all carried simple hydrangea bouquets that me and my MOH put together ourselves (super cheap to do) and I carried a brooch bouquet that I got on Etsy.com from Noaki Jewelery. I have also seen brides carry bouquets made out of buttons, feathers, even vegetables! A little imagination goes a long way. Good luck!

  • Do candles or lanterns for centerpieces.  You can dress them up with decorative rocks.

  • I've seen lots of people make bouquets out of silk, paper, and fabric flowers if you like the look without the sniffle issue.  Brooch bouquets are gorgeous, but can be pricey if you're not careful about how you put it together.

Centerpieces you can easily do collections of candles to make classy looking, flowerless centerpieces.  Try doing them in various heights (either with different height holders or by placing them on things like piles of books or slabs of wood), and decorate with some river rocks.

Paper.  Silk.  Broach.  Button.  I've seen all of these types of bouquets.  Of those alternatives, the most beautiful, to me, are the broach bouquets.

For centerpieces, you can always go with candles and hurricanes.  We had a sqiare mirrored glass base with a single white taper in a hurricane, surrounded by white votive candles in small glass holders.
