Meridian Banquets - Yes or No

Has anyone used Meridian Banquets as their reception venue? Feedback on food, service, decor, etc.?

    check out The Cotillion in Palatine, we are very happy with them so far!

    Hi,

    My reception will be at the Meridian next month.  I'm so happy with my choice.  The food tasting was great.  They made it fun.  The tables were set up exactly like it would be for the wedding.   They only had 4 other couples there and we were all scheduled at different times so we were never on the same courses at the same time.  I can't wait to have it there.  My contact there is Joyce.  I'm the type of person who asks a lot of questions and Joyce answered everyone and didn't make me feel bad or weird for asking too many. She answered every question I asked and I asked a lot.  Also I don't know if you know but the Meridian is an old Sony Movie Theatre that they remodeled.

    We are planning on taking some extended family photos in their atrium since the middle of the attrium is so pretty.

    Originally I wanted to have my reception at a one  room reception hall because I thought it might be kind of crazy with too many weddings going on once.  Before we signed, my FI and I got dressed up and visited the Meridian on a Saturday night when they were going to be having a couple of weddings going on at once.  There was plenty of parking in front & back of the building.  The bathrooms were clean and not crowded.  The weddings seemed to be going smoothly.  So we were satisifed and signed with them the next day.

    They will display the cake on the dance floor.  They will decorate the cake table with votives and real flower petals.

    We are having them cut the cake and serve the cake instead of cutting and wrapping the cake. 

    The reception is for 6 hours.  Our cocktail hour will be 6 to 7 and the bar will close at 7 and will reopen at 9.  Dinner will be at 7.  We decided not to add additonal bar hours.  You can add additional bar hours if you want.

    They offer a couple of centerpiece designs which are included in the package.  We ended up going with 3 roses in a vase with a mirror and three votives.  We will give them some purple rose petals to sprinkle on each table for some more color.

     Thanks that is so reassuring to hear. I am 100% sure I will be putting my deposit down on Saturday and am very exicted. Joyce is my contact as well and like you I ask a ton of questions and she was more than easy to talk to as well as answer any question I had. We are thinking of doing the same timing as you for the wedding. What do additional hours cost, do you know? I have decided to to the draping from the ceiling with the linens with the balls of flowers as well as the backdrop behind the bridal table. Like you I also decided to have the cake cute and served.

    Sorry I have my notes at home regarding adding more hours.

    Just to let you know, they do offer a vegeterian entree which is cheese tortellini with marinara sauce and steamed veggies, soup, salad and ice cream.  We have a couple of friends and family that are vegetarians.

    Yes, we asked about the vegetarian dish as well because we have a few friends who are. Our wedding date is September 8, 2012.

    No personal experiences attending an event there, but I think it's very pretty inside and the staff seemed very helpful when we went for a price quote once.

     Are you having your cocktail hour in the same room as the reception and which room are you having your reception in? Did you upgrade the linens, or do the back drop behind the bridal table?

     Yes, we are having cocktail hour in the same room.  We are having our wedding in room E which I believe is the smallest of the rooms because we have a smaller wedding compared to the other rooms.

    We did not do the backdrop behind the bridal table.  I thought about it but I guess we just decided no.  I don’t remember why though.  Are you doing the back drop behind the bridal table?  Was it expensive or a decent price?

    We upgraded the linen that will be on the cake table and the head table. 

    Have a good weekend.  I haven't found anyone else on her that has the same banquet hall.

    I am doing the back drop behind the bridal table, as well as the cocktail hour in a different room. We are using the second largest banquet room. The back drop was a decent price.

    How you doing? I am getting married July 30th  2011 and i am having my reception at the Meridian, and i am having room E, pretty much we ended up there by luck since we had big issues with other venue that canceled on us.

    Joyce is our event coordiator at the meridian and she has been really nice and helpful and making sure that all we want is being done.

    At the beggining i was concened about the small size of the room but then i realized that from the 150 people i am inviting, some people wont come, so it wont be too bad for the size of the venue. It was the last room available for that date.

    I saw, sombody else is having room E, how manty people will you have in there?

    And yes, i really recommend it, the pricing is great comparing other places.

    I am having my reception in room B and the cocktail reception in room C. The only thing that occurred recently was that they would not allow me to bring in a design company to do my Chivari Chairs. The Chivari Chairs were 4.50 a piece cheaper but they did allow me to have the design company do my back drop. It was disappointing because these stipulations were not in the contract. Anyway other than that they have been very helpful and wonderful. I do look forward to hosting my event there, keep me updated on how everything goes with you July 30th wedding!

    Oh really, the only thing that dissapointed me as well is that they didnt allow me to do some decorations but besides that everything it is ok. I am having cocktail hour on the same room since we thought that paying extra 1500 for another room was a lot of waste of money for only one hour.

    What decorations did they not allow you to do?

    We are trying to keep it at 200. Are you doing the backdrop? Also, let me know how your tastig goes, our wedding isn't until 09-08-12.

    Hi, i am not doing the backdrop but just for our headtable so we want to invest the money on something more useful.

    The didnt let me bring certain stuff to put on the walls like some flower arrangements (but i understand), so i guess i will use pedestals.

    All is good so far. The tasting was really good and everyone that attended loved our menu. I am soo looking forward to it.

    Congrats on your wedding! I was wondering how many people did you or will you have on your wedding for Room E,i am having my wedding there too at that same room and i am having a maximum of 150 people.

    If your wedding already took place, what are the reviews from the service? Advices? Thanks! =)
