What do you think about a wedding close to a holiday?

I'm looking at doing a Summer wedding. The venue we looked at said they had an opening July 5, 2013. I've never thought about having a wedding close to a holiday before and was wondering what everyones opinion is. We were also thinking Labor Day weekend 2013... We have probably about 25% of our guest list traveling from the West Coast and thought it may be easier for them if we chose to do it over a holiday weekend. Thanks everyone!

  • I had friends that got married on July 4th, and they actually  had more time to set up in their venue than if they would have done it on a regular day.  If it's what works for you guys go for it.

I think as long as it's not a holiday people generally spend with family (Thanksgiving and Xmas), then it's cool.
  • My wedding is Memorial Day weekend.  It is nice that so many people have the ability to take additional time off to come to town for the wedding.
  • Labor day weddings are bitter sweet. Most people do try and see family that weekend, but you have an extra day to recover!

    We're Married!! And I couldn't be happier!
  • We are doing ours this year on the Sunday night of Labor Day weekend.  Most people tend not to go away as some schools already are in session, plus being a Sunday night we did not have to pay the rental fee for the venue!!
  • We are doing Sunday of Memorial's Day weekend to give our guest the extra day to get back....since 50% of our guest are traveling. I think it depends on your guest list but it cuts cost a lot so if you can, I say GO for it!
  • Just don't do it on a Friday of a holiday weekend. That might sound weird, but I had a friend to a Friday wedding Labor Day weekend. Some professions, including many schools, don't allow you to take off days surrounding holidays.
  • My parents got married Thanksgiving weekend and my best friend's brother got married 4th of July weekend. From both accounts it was great! Since people usually have a few days off it made the wedding into a celebration that spanned several days filled with lots of bonding and fun times.
