No Favors?

Has anyone not done the favor thing. I am back and forth on this. I like for them to have a take away but then I think about the weddings I have been to and do I remember or still have their favors? NO so then why go to the craz and money to provide these? Any thoughts?

What we did was donate money to the ASPCA and I also made little boxes filled with M&Ms and Kisses. Nice and simple.

I know I'm in the minority but I am the kind of person who keeps the favors from weddings. I prefer tangible favors over candy bars/edible favors.
My friends are the same way, so if there is no favor, we would give it the 'side eye'.

We did 3 favors, the main favor was an engraved silver bell that doubled as the place card holder. Then per person favors were a box of wooden matches (personally I love getting matches as favors) and a tin of NY Yankee M&Ms.

Donation to the shelter where we adopted our dog from. And possibly Autism Speaks, as one of our nephews has Autism.

My FI lost his mother to Breast Cancer at a very young age so we are donating to a Breast Cancer foundation in lieu of favors, i am going to put a pink ribbon pin on every setting with a small card attached to it saying that we donated.

Are you giving something, anything, along with the note about the donation?

I think donations are a personal thing and I just think that they aren't appropriate as a wedding favor.

I always thought the favor was supposed to be something FOR the guests, I don't see how a donation fits that.

I totally agree. I'd rather not have a favor at all then a piece of paper telling me what you aren't giving me.

My FI and I went to a wedding three years ago and the couple did NOT give a favor. They made a dontation to Parkinson's, and we thought it was a great idea!!! Since then we have been saying when it's our time to get married we're going to make a donation.
Why take a home a favor that is just going to collect dust or get thrown away, when money to go to a good cause? We're donating to the American Cancer Society and American Heart Association. We're having a table set up near the escort cards with two 8x10 picture frames. One with info about ACS donation and the other about the AHA donation. We are also going to include a wallet-sized picture in a frame of each family member who we lost to those diseases and could not be with us to celebrate. IMO, it's much more meaningful.
People are going to your wedding in celebration in support of your marriage, not to receive a favor. Do some people like receiving them, sure. But that's not why they attend. I can't imagine anyone would miss the favor at my wedding. Isn't good food, music, and company more important?!?!

We donated to organization where we adopted our pit bull. I made little cards explaining the donation. I think pics may be in my bio somewhere. We also had a candy bar so that people could take something home. I love the donation idea!

Personally, I'm with the group that prefers a donation or an edible favor. I don't need some candle or little frame or a thing printed with someone else's name and wedding date. Then I end up feeling bad about throwing it out when I get home. That is if I even take it off the table...I wasn't going to do a favor but DH knew his family "expected" one so we did a candy buffet. That said, I don't think his side really understood that the candy buffet was their favor anyways. Do whatever you're comfortable with

I love the favor idea and FI's grandfather just died recently and he had Alzheimer's. I posted something about it on the favors board asking if this was an ok idea and most of the ladies over there are very very against it. I'm glad to see a lot of local brides considering doing donations as well.

I'm definitely in favor of the donation. I went to a friend's wedding who just had cards on the plate saying that a donation (to the clinic his wife was working in at med school) was made instead of a favor. I loved it because I didn't have to take home something that was going to eventually end up in a landfill, like the pile of candle holders I had before. I decided that I'm definitely donating to the rabbit rescuer I got my bunnies from after seeing that. My FI wants money to go to help people so we're making bunny shaped cards explaining the donations in lieu of favors. And, don't worry, if you look into it, favors aren't the norm all over the country. We just happen to be getting married somewhere that it is but people are there to celebrate your love. If they aren't there for that reason, then they really don't deserve to be there with you.

We are also considering donations instead of favors. My FI's grandfather just passed away in the past few weeks from Alzheimers and my grandfather passed away from cancer. We're thinking of making bookmark favors with an explanation on one side of where the donations are going too.

Personally I haven't had one favor I have liked yet (rock candy in a shot glass I think, wine stopper that doesn't fit into a bottle, maple syrup in a maple leaf, small bag of chocolates multiple times). The only favor that I ever considered to be worth time and money was a donation to Autism Speaks organzation and a puzzle piece pin was given in lieu of a favor. The woman had her class of children with Autism decorate the pins. I thought it was a sweet gesture and really made the wedding their own. HTH!

I just did mini boxes of candy....it only cost me 80 bucks for 150 filled boxes....got everything from michaels with coupons...and I made little thank you tags for them on my computer ...
