HELP! Reception halls!!

Hey ladies!

We've started our process and are looking for some awesome places to have our reception! Any suggestions?

We're looking for a cool, open space. Rustic would be awesome. Affordable would be great too :)

Specs: 320(ish) people.
$$: up to $40/plate.

Thank you ladies!!!

I am using Afton Alps in Hastings.  It is a ski resort, and I know they hold that many people.  The hall rental is like $850ish for a Saturday night and plates run 15-25 per person.  It is a chalet so it definitely has rustic charm.  Good luck, and I highly suggest calling as a method to contact them as opposed to e-mail.

Profile Event Center, more modern than rustic, but very cool and affordable!

As you have a larger guest list like me, I would seriously consider places limits.  If they say they can hold 300/325, and you think you will have that many guests, things are going to get really cramped.  I've been to a bunch or larger weddings with my huge family, and the venues really, REALLY push those limits.  I would try to find somewhere that holds no less that 350, and if you want to do some things like a candy bar/photobooth, you are going to want even more extra room.

We are inviting a little over five hundred, and so we didnt really have a choice for venue.  We are having it at the Prom Center in Oakdale (very close to Woodbury).  One thing that I really love is that there is no rental charge for their space, just food and drink minimums ($7,500 for half a ballroom and $14,000 for the whole thing).  We are doing butler passed h'orderves, four course dinner (five with cake, but that is provided by us), and a late night snack, which is going to come our to a little over 50 per person, but we are obviously getting a ton for that amount.  And the food is absolutely amazing.  I wanted something really open too, and thats what stood out to me about the Prom Center over lots of other hotel ballroom, and it has very nuteral colors so you could easily make it more rustic with decorations.

They don't have many days open next year, but I'm pretty sure 10/8 is open, because we had that date booked up until recently when we moved it up to next July.  If you are interested in it though, I would look into it soon.

Oh, and they are having a big wedding show thing there this coming Saturday.  I found these really, really helpful in the early days of my planning.

You ladies rock. THANK YOU! I will look into all of the above! We're also checking out Golden Valley CC this weekend too! They have a 370 limit comfortably.. so I think that'll be nice too like you were saying, Enchanted616.

THANKS AGAIN! Keep the ideas coming!

Nicollet Island Pavilion is rustic looking and has a large enough capacity, I'm pretty sure... but it's probably very spendy.  Earle Brown Heritage Center is pretty rustic looking... not sure on costs.  Also, one I have only seen advertised on the Bellagala website is Bandana Square!

Spaces that are more traditional architecturally (not necessarily rustic) that I can think of are Landmark Center, Christos Union Depot and University Club ballrom in downtown Saint Paul... Semple Mansion, The Depot and St. Anthony Main Event Center in Minneapolis.  There's also more traditional-looking golf clubs like the Rush Creek golf club in Maple Grove, Midland Hills CC in Roseville, Mendakota CC in Mendota Heights...

Other lmore contemporary spaces that probably fit enough people are Blaisdell Manor and Eagan Community center.

My venue (Columbia Manor) is rustic looking, but definitely would not fit 320 people!  We had to trim our guest list a lot more than we wanted to because of it's capacity of 280.

The PEC is great but 320 might be a tight squeeze in there....

I actually just booked my reception there as well! I aboslutely love it already! No hidden fees, unbelievable buffet/dinner prices, and whomever you talk to will be super friendly. We talked to Debbie and she was just really great. I highly recommend Afton Alps.
