Post this on your local board (it can be found on the left). Those ladies can probably help you a lot better with this question. Good luck :)

Post on your local board. However, don't let people rush you to know everything about your wedding. One thing my friend told me when I got engage was to enjoy my engagement for at least a month before starting to plan.

  • Completely agree with the PP. I let my engagement sink in for about 2 months before I started to plan anything. In that time, FI and I took our time deciding what type of wedding we wanted. Dont let other people pressure you, I just simply would reply we will start planning shortly, right now we are enjoying our engagement. Honestly, once you start planning, you dont stop, so stop and enjoy it for a minute.

  • In the Metro Detroit area, there are lots of great places to have an outdoor wedding. Before you even start planning you should have a good idea as to what your budget is going to be. The least expensive would be a municipal park like Dodge park #4 in Waterford, although they don't allow alcohol. The Metroparks (Stony Creek, Kensington, Indian Springs, etc.) are all really great choices. I was looking into Indian Springs for myself, and it's not just a park, they have a really beautiful venue and they have a specific catering company that they use, so they'd be kind of middle of the road. On the more expensive side, you could use the Henry Ford gardens. In West Bloomfield, there's a conservatory that is beautiful! Also tres cher. Hope this helps!

  • Congratulations on the engagement!!  I also agree, enjoy it for a little while before you get to into the planning.  Do you have a date or a rough time frame you would like to have your wedding?  The ladies here know a lot more of places then I do since I do not live in MI anymore and grew up in Northern Michigan.  Our wedding is at Stone Creek Banquet Hall part of Flat Rock Recreation Center in Flat Rock Mi.  We are doing the ceremony outside.  The whole place is beautiful!!  We also looked at Shriner's which has an outdoor location and has beautiful stained glass windows.  That is all I am familiar with though, sorry I couldn't be more help.  You will get a lot of great ideas here though.  Don't forget to check out the vendor reviews, there is some great information in there.  Good luck!

  • First of all, breathe. Just relax a little and soak up being engaged. Like PP said, once you start planning-you don't stop. Also before you do anything at all, talk to your FI. Ask him what his opinions are for the day and what he doesn't want. Know your budget before you start looking at venues, it makes no sense to fall in love with a venue that you absolutely cannot afford.

But congrats on the engagement! Just don't stress out, tell people that you are enjoying being engaged and you'll worry about the details later. :)
