Florist Help!

Ok,so im a little lost here. I have no idea how much is reasonable to pay for a florist. I have a meeting set up with one who I've heard is pretty darn expensive, but I don't know what that means to some people, lol. Has anyone used Dr. Delphinium? This is my first appt and I wanted to see if anyone can tell me anything? We also like A Man and a Woman and I was thinking about Haute Floral in Allen. Any recommendations or advice from anyone? I was hoping to stay around 2000-2500, am I crazy? Like I said, totally lost here. And we are looking at about 12-15 tables depending on attendees, 1 moh, 2 bms, groom , best man, 2 groomsmen, 2 ushers, his mom and dad and my mom.

Re: Florist Help!

  • Flower quotes can be all over the board depending on how much floral you need, types of flowers used, season, etc.  Dr. Delphinium will be on up there for sure.  I'm not as familiar with the others.

But you are doing the right thing by getting 3 quotes.  That is how many I got (including one with a higher end florist, Bella Flora).  I ended up going with the florist in the middle as far as quotes because I liked her so much and she understood my vision, which was as important to me as the cost.

I had similar needs to yours and in 2009 I spent around $2300. I could have just as easily spent $5k.  Just give the florists your budget and see what they can do with it would be my advice.
  • Funny you mention Haute Floral in Allen, I just emailed her to set up a consult. I'm in the same boat as you. My budget is smaller because I don't need ceremony or centerpieces which are supplied by my venue. I did hear that Dr.Delphinium was pretty expensive. I'm not much help here. The 3 I'm setting up consults with are Cindy Davis Design, In Bloom, Haute Floral. I'm also considering RainFlorist Designs. So many choices!

I had about the same table numbers as you, more WP, and spent around $1750 in the end, I think.  I used Out of the Garden and got married November 2011.

ETA: Most florists should be able to work within whatever budget you give them, they will just have to change the type of flowers they use, the way they're designed, stuff like that.

  • Awesome,  thanks guys! This really helps a lot..I'm hoping we come in under what i've got in my mind because i'm not terribly picky with the type of flower except for the bouquets since i have something already in mind there. I'll check out the florists you guys have thrown out!

For my October 2011 wedding I spent $3,200, but that included a lot of ceremony decor and all of the candles and candle holders at the reception.

Elizabeth Alaniz with Unique Wedding Designs at 817-683-8746 in Dallas.

Her delivery fees might be a little higher if she has to rent a van (my venue was in Grapevine so that might be the reason why) but everything was perfect. :)

  • I used a friend of a friend (Ashley Kirk of Ashlilium) who was just getting started on her own at the time of my wedding last June, and I paid about $1500 for my bouquet, 4 BM's bouquets, 8 bouts, 2 corsages, and 20-ish table centerpieces (3 high and the rest short). For any that we used at the church (I think it was just on the table in the foyer by the programs) we just relocated to the reception venue. She was really great to work with and didn't charge anything additional for delivery/set-up. I don't know how she managed to extend the life of my peonies to make it to June 18, but thank god she did--there was no way I was special ordering those suckers from Holland!

  • If I had gone with a florist, she would have been around 1,000$ (which was personally over my budget). I wanted rannocolous, Peonies, and dahlias. I had 14 boutoneers and 12 bouquets (plus my bridal bouquet). This quote included my 10 centerpieces as well (a lot of babies breath and peonies). She was INCREDIBLY affordable and I was able to communicate my idea.

I wish I could of used her, but it was just out of my budget. My friend used her for her wedding (that I was a bridesmaid in).

She is Flor by Melissa http://florbymelissa.com/ . She does some REALLY great work and can really work in a budget that is set for you.

BTW, I ended up going with Central Market ordering in my flowers for me and DIY-ing everything (because floral wasn't really in our budget). Central Market (particularly Rachel at the Preston/Royal location) does some AWESOME work on a budget.
  • I think depending on what you want your budget is totally doable. I used Branching Out, but I met with A man and A woman and I kind of wish I woul have used them.

Yes, I did love A Man and A Woman.  They were absolutely great to work with and gave me exactly what I wanted!  I would highly recommend them and I know they can work with whatever budget you have!
