RSVP Card Wording

I'm working on designing my wedding invites, and I was wondering about the wording of the RSVP cards.  I would like to give guests an option to select a vegetarian meal, or let us know if they will be needing a children's meal.  I was thinking something like:

Please respond on or before the first of July

M __________________________ ___ Decline with regret   ___ Accept with pleasure        ___ Number of carnivorous meals        ___ Number of vegetarian meals        ___ Number of children’s meals
That just seems like a LOT of text on a RSVP card...What do other people do?  Should I just call everyone who responds yes to see if they would like a vegetarian meal?  I'm considering simply leaving the children's meal option off the card, we know who the children are and we can simply put them down for that...And is carnivorous the correct term for a meal with meat?

Re: RSVP Card Wording

  • I'd lose the "with regret" and "with pleasure" after "accept" and "decline."

Although "carnivorous" does mean "with meat," it's too ostentatious and you may have guests who don't know what the word means.

    Maybe have something like:

    Name(s) of invited guests

    _____  Accept                  _____ Decline

    Number of meals:

    _____ Meat                      ______Vegetarian                 ______Children's

Ditto Jen.  Just put accepts or declines, you don't want to presume the responders emotions.

ETA:  Instead of meat, I would put chicken or beef, depending on what you're serving.  Some people will eat chicken but not red meat.
  • I just don't like the way carnivorous looks/sounds. I picture animals ripping into other animals when I see it. Not a good image on a wedding invitation. Haha!
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

We chose not to give our guests the meal option. Although I originally wanted it, I figured it could get messy. People may respond with how many vegetarian meals, but then you have to track the family down and clarify WHO wants it. So we just left it off the RSVP, but included the details of the meal (and the vegetarian and children meal options) on our website. I have a list of known vegetarians and others who have requested it. And I'll ask the caterer to prepare a couple extras, maybe.
