Invitations

How much should I expect to pay for invitations ranging from cheap to expensive?
I really have no idea, and know it depends on what you are looking for, but i really have no idea..
I went for a meeting today to go over custom invitations.. and have come to discover I need the invitations, the place cards, the menus the table numbers.. does anyone want to share their expierences??
thanks so much!

it really depends on how many you need and what you are looking to do. You can very easily spend a few thousand on invitations if you do pocket folds and use colorful patterns and jewel closures or any kind of special jeweled accents.

There are also a lot of online resources where you can learn to DIY- which is what I am doing but it is a ton of work!

Some of that stuff can be done yourself.  I ordered from www.birchcraftinvitations.com and was very happy.  100 invitations for like $200.

invitations can cost anything i'm sure from $1 to beyond each.

Mine were much more than I thought we'd be spending - just over $10 each for about 170 invitations but in the end I'm glad we went with the custom invitations.

I ordered my invitations through Elegant Gift Gallery...they have a website, but I went to the store in person.  200 invitations wound up being about 350.

We did the invitations ourselves and ordered the materials from Cardsandpockets.com. It was around $3.50 I think when all was said and done with postage and everything. But it did TAKE FOREVER to do them all and I'm not exaggerating. If you go that route, just make sure you do lots of research before trying to do them. What kinds of glue you'll need, paper cutter, printing etc.

But I think you can probably find some that are less expensive than that and definitely some that are much more expensive. It all depends on the style you're looking for.

As for menus, seating cards and table numbers - we DIYed all of those as well, but your venue might offer those. Double check to see. We volunteered to do those ourselves because I wanted them to be unique.

We did the DIY route also- bought a set from Michaels with 50% off coupons. Invitations themselves ended up being around $60 (for 120), $44 for 100 stamps, printed my own direction and hotel cards on cardstock (free, already had the paper), plus cost of ink which I don't know b/c we used my FILs pritner. Total ended up being just over $1 with postage.

We did our our menu cards on the same cardstock and I am working on the table numbers myself.

You don't "need" them ... of course the designer is going to tell you that you do, because she wants you to buy them from her. If you WANT them through her, get them, but otherwise there are plenty of other resources.

Our invites were from WeddingPaperDivas.com. We got the invite, reply card and the two envelopes. The reception hall and the hotel gave us direction slips to put in the invites, and we made a church directions card through Vistaprint.com. The invites were light enough to require a regular stamp, and with postage for the RSVP envelopes it totalled us maybe $3.50 per invite to send them out in the end.

I bought colored tented place cards from Paper-Source.com, and some white cardstock, and made them myself. The hall had free cards they would've given me, but I had a specific idea in mind for the place cards that I really wanted to do. That was really my only big DIY project.

The hall provided the menus and the table numbers. They informed people of the meal choices and got them to their seats properly, so I didn't see the point in paying money just to make them look "cute."

People will not notice or care if your stationery is not all perfectly matched. I can't imagine that anyone had a crummy time at my wedding because the place cards weren't the exact same shade of green as the invitations.
