Which Would You Prefer?

I'm looking to have my wedding in August. In WI where the humidity is usually terrible (what a great idea, huh? Lol). Anywho, my venue has a really gorgeous looking chapel, but it has NO A/C. The other option at the venue is to have the ceremony outside.

Our ceremony will be 20 mins, tops. Would you prefer to be outside or in the chapel w/ no a/c?

Neither! Haha but seriously I have been to an outdoor wedding in IL (with the same awful humidity) on a 90+ degree day and it was absolutely TERRIBLE. The ceremony was about 20 min. but most people get there early, so now you're sitting around for over 30 min. There wasn't a whole lot of shade either.

Will the outside area have shade? If it does, I would almost say outdoors because I think you'll get more air flow than being inside in a stuffy chapel with no A/C that's enclosed. If you can have it in the shade and provide fans (could do program fans if you wanted to) and maybe also provide some water, I think that would be a much better idea. Is there no where else you could have it inside with A/C? You're still over a year out.

    Vacation
  • Outside.  Put up a tent, bring in some fans.

Inside during high heat is just miserable.  No air flow and it gets hot fast.
  • Outside for the ceremony
Use the inside for your wedding pics

Neither. I attended an outside wedding a few days ago where it was 104 degrees and the humidity was awful. They had fans going, but it just felt like a dog was breathing in your face.

ETA: Their ceremony only lasted 10 minutes, but with some emergency they had going on it started over an hour and a half late. Everyone was drenched with sweat and I'm honestly surprised no one had a heat stroke.

  • Could you visit the chapel this August on a hot, humid day to see what it feels like? Whether you decide to have the ceremony inside or out, look into renting some huge fans to keep the air moving.

  • Neither.
I live in the Tampa Bay area, and no one goes to weddings that are inside-no-AC or outside weddings between June and September.  They just won't go.
I'm from the Detroit/Toledo area, and I wouldn't go to an August wedding with those conditions either.
Get married at this venue on the last weekend in October or the first two weekends in November.  When it's cool.
  • Down here in Texas I believe they now rent out portable A/C units...not the kind that go in a window, but more like a large room heater only A/C.  Might be something to check into
  • Outside because if its gonna be hot anyway might as well be outside.
