Louisiana-New Orleans

Venues, venues, venues!

I'm an lot new bride planning April 5, 2014 wedding. So many placing are already booking for that date and I have to narrow down my options. My groom wants somewhere "New Orleans-y" haha for reception. Ceremony is at st. Francis uptown. The options are overwhelming. I have reviewed federal ballroom, board of trade, wax museum, Muriel's, omni royal, chicory, moteleone, chateaux lemoyne, montegut house, bourbon vieux.... Whew! Any opinions would be much appreciated.. I am thing 150 guests and would like to keep it intimate to force guests to enjoy the band and not scatter about.

  • In terms of proximity to your church, you should also check out the Terrell House, the Columns Hotel, Audubon Park or City Park.  Are you planning to arrange for transportation for your guests?  It's kind of a hike from the church to the CBD or the French Quarter.
  • Yes everyone will be staying around the qtr so we'd like to do one trip back that way gets can leave or party after when they want. When I lived in NO I lived 3 houses from St. Francis, so wanted to show guests different side of the city.

You may also want to consider Gallier Hall, Race & Religious, Hotel Mazarin.

I actually had my wedding at the New Orleans Board of Trade and had a great experience with Pigeon Catering, who manages the space.  We had about twice as many guests, but most weddings held there are about the size of yours.
  • I am having a wedding about that same size and we looked at:
-the board of trade (what I ultimately picked! so far it's been great, the tasting was AMAZING)
-Riverview room (didn't like that you had to go through a mall like area to get there...don't want my guest stopping in Chico's on the way in...weird)
-Pat O's on the river (same issue as Riverview Room)
-The Chicory (LOVED the look but it has 3 large rooms and a balcony area so I was worried guests would get scattered)
-The Wax (great space and unique but very informal for my taste)
-Bourbon Orleans Ballroom (seemed tight for 150 and not as unique as others)
-Latrobe's (very cool space and unique but choppy rooms that would not be a great "flow" for guests, also a tight fit for 150. It was a place that you would spend 30 minutes trying to shove through the crowd of guests to find your groom in)

We looked at a few more but those are the ones I remember off the top of my head. All great spaces just depends what kind of thing your looking for. I ultimately went with The Board of Trade because the space is historic and unique, you can dress it up or down and it goes with just about any decor. It has great indoor and outdoor space that gives guests a place to go for a break but they can't wander too far or miss out. The flexibility in the packages is ideal and the food is just fabulous. I liked to location too since it is close enough to the FQ for those who want to after party but far enough into the CBD that you don't get the loud street noise or wandering street people...it felt safer and I was confident that my grandparents could be there without accidentally wandering by a strip club.

Wow! Thank you all so so much! I had no idea how helpful and nice everyone would be on the boards. So appreciative for all the advice.
