Medifast

Hello everyone!

I hope you all enjoyed the beginning of the New Year!  This is my first time posting on this board.  I am posting now because I am starting the Medifast program tomorrow and thought this might be a good place to find some support!  I am excited and nervous to start.  It seems like a very cliche time to begin a weight loss journey, but my wedding is in 5 months and I really want to start our new lives together in a very positive and healthy place!  Does anyone where have any experience with the Medifast program?

Have a great day!

Re: Medifast

  • i know nothing overly constructive about the program, but be conscientious.  I've know three people who have done it and then gained almost all the weight back as soon as they entered the maintenance phase since they really hadn't learned how to eat a healthy lifestyle thorough the program.
  • I started Medifast last year, held strict to the 5 and 1 program for 2 months and lost 20 lbs.  I went completely off of it after the 2 months and have only gained 5 lbs back since March.  This is because I consciously made poor eating decisions over the holidays.  I did learn alot about making better food choices.  Basically, eat meat and vegetables.  Stay away from starches and sugars.  My fiance ate the Lean and Green meals just as I did for dinners, he lost 15 lbs doing that alone.  I like the structure of the program and I did see weight drop faster than any other attempts I made at improving my nutrition and activiy levels.

I am starting Medifast again today.  Have you registered on mymedifast.com?  If so, PM me your user name and we can become friends on the site.  If you have any questions or want tips just let me know.  Good luck!
  • My aunt used medifast to lose about 60 pounds. IMO it is a decent program if you have a lot of weight to lose but it doesn't provide you with the tools to maintain a long-term healthy weight. It is a good kickstart which a lot of people need to see results and motivate you to keep going. However, about a year later she has gained back 20 lbs and is considering doing medifast again which I don't agree with. From what I know about it you are eating so few calories a day your body goes in to starvation mode and you lose weight but it's not a healthy long term solution. I tried Nutrisystem a few years ago and it has the same problem; you don't learn how to cook for yourself and plan healthy well rounded meals so it's hard to maintain.

That being said, how much do you want to lose and in what amount of time?
