How tacky??

So because my mother has Alzheimer's we have to have our wedding in the day, so after the reception, our closest friends & family are coming back to my sister's to continue partying through the night, like I've always imagined.  We want our guests to really enjoy themselves with the open bar so we were looking into shuttles from her house to Mahan's and then back.

The fancier buses can only hold like 28 people and would cost everyone like $38 each.  So the place suggested we look into school buses and he thought it would only be like $500 total for 46 passengers making it like $10 a person!!! And we would be able to fit sooo many more people that way.  FI thinks it's a great idea and is totally for it.  His family has already said they would be game for a shuttle bus. Part of me is like eh... is a school bus tacky???? The other part of me is like, I want my guests to have a good time and get there saftely.. is 30 minutes on a school bus going to make a difference???

Just wondering what knotties thought or if anyone else has done it.  It just seems like a great alternative.  I'm still waiting to hear back from DATCO with some quotes.

Thanks ladies!
Nikki

I agree... not tacky. I think it is very economical and practical solution to get the most people to/from your wedding safely.

Word of warning: When I was in college we used school buses for some of the transport, and the issues that arose is mainly - after an evening of drinking - having to use facilities. Yes, half an hour is not long, but when someone's "broken the seal" and they have to sit on a bumpy bus ride for half an hour, it's a different story.

School buses sound great....as long as you don't need to go.

This applies to those who need to break the seal or for those who have a wee one pushing down on their bladder!

i hope school buses arent tacky i'm researching them now! haha...

i was having the same worry then i realized that no one is going to care what they look like when they are providedwith transportation, something your guests won't have to worry about.

plus if someone sees its school bus, they normally will know there is no bathroom and go before they get on the bus! :)

i'm calling: First student / Winkle Bus Co / Durham School Service (all from knottie recommendations..)

We hired First Student to carry our guests about 20 minutes from New Haven to Branford.  It was totally affordable, about $275 in total and they did three runs (the first to pick up the guests and two runs back to the hotel).  We really liked their service and have some great pictures of my DH and I riding the bus after the wedding.
