Limo v. Van

I could use some help.  Mike and I haven't fought about anything in this whole wedding planning process, except for the transportation.  I didnt think it was necessary to get transportation, but he really wants it...specifically a limo.  He wants transportation because he was stuck driving the girls everywhere for my sister's wedding.  He wants a limo because he says its more stylish, better for pics and its our wedding, why not?

We will have ten people in our wedding party and the limos in our price range are 10 person limos.  An executive van is about $250 cheaper and holds up to 13 people.  I'm not sure how many people will be riding in the limo.  My sister will have a three month old, so I'm not sure if she would want to bring the baby into an executive van or a limo in any event, though executive van would be easier.  My MOH will be flying up from Tx with her husband who doesn't really know anybody else and isn't a native English speaker (he will have just moved to the states).

I guess this is a lengthy way of asking, should I be so worried about the significant others in my wedding party?  Is it worth the extra $250 to get a limo?  I've never been in a limo before, so a part of me would love a limo because it seems like a luxury.  But I don't want to be rude to my wedding party either.  And for anybody who got married and had a limo, did you use it in any pictures? I know I'm over thinking this, but it really has become the only issue in wedding planning...bizarre right?

Would you be able to get into the van in your dress?  Also keep in mind that you  most likely will be taking up two spots because of your dress.

That's another thing.  Some people have said its easier getting into a van in the dress.  I'm not sure a ten person limo actually holds ten people.  The girls dresses are short and the girls are all petite but the guys are bigger.  But there are six girls (including me) and four guys (including Mike)

I would think if you get a limo you would want something bigger than a 10 person.  They can fit 10, but maybe not comfortably.

We are using an Executive van since it really saved us about $250 versus the limo. I really dont see the point in having the limo in pictures. We have 11 people in the wedding party, and are not included spouse or significant others, just my bridesmaids and me (5 girls) and my groom and his groomsmen (6 boys). The cost was what sold us, why not save some money and you really are not in it for very long in the scheme of things.

We had 10 people and used a 13 person limo, and it was a perfect fit. So I would definitely look at something bigger than a 10 person limo.

We did not use the limo in a single photo because it was raining, so I wouldn't factor that into your decision incase you have bad weather.

Almost everyone has a limo or van for their wedding- so you never really see pics of it. The only people who I have seen take pics are if they use a special transportation- a trolley, horse and buggy, etc. I definitely wouldn't factor that into your decision.

We will have a to take a limo bus for our wedding since we have 16 people (huge I know). But our wedding party prefers a van vs a limo because it's roomier. No one wants to be dressed up and squished. You will be more comfortable in a van, which are still nice on the inside I believe.

By van are you referring to a limo bus or an actual van?

I think wedding party significant others typically figure things out themselves.  If it's in your budget to have a limo that can fit your whole party, it might not be worth fighting with your FI over.   I don't see it as a big photo opportunity either... I think the scenery around would be nicer for pictures than in front of a limo (or van).

Personally, I think FI and I will be doing a town car for the two of us.  It's affordable compared to a limo, and looks nice.  But we are having the ceremony and reception in the same place, so we have no need to travel except for pictures.

Thanks ladies.  Yesterday we booked the executive van, but I think FI was a little sad.  I know a limo is not a great photo op, but FI just kept on mentioning that.  I think we'll stick with the executive van, but if anybody else does have another opinion, I'm not opposed reconsidering.

We're doing a limo bus - doesn't look quite as nice on the outside...but much more comfortable and roomier than a limo and looks basically the same on the inside.  All the weddings I've been in have provided transportation for the wedding party.  (significant others usually have driven on their own, since everyone will need a way to the church and home from the reception)
