Cheap Venues

Hello All! I'm fairly new here, and is a bit overwhelmed with all the info. I'm looking for a cheap wedding/reception venue in the Dallas area. So far I have Addison Event Center, and Capella Court on the list of venues to visit. Any other suggestions? Also, what were your experiences/final price?

Thanks!

Oh, and the wedding is set for 8/27/2011 for about 100 guests.

the chamber of commerce in the area as well will be helpful. they often do "starter" welcome bags as well for your out of town guests.

Hi there.  Check out our venue sticky at the top of the page to get started.  It has great pricing and detail information. We've had a couple of brides use both of those venues so I'm sure you'll get more information on those.

I don't recall the final price at Addison Event Center but we really enjoyed working with Suzan and Henry and had a great experience with using Addison Event Center.
We went with them because they allowed outside catering which was really important to us because we wanted to bring in Persian food and also bc they allowed us to bring in our own alcohol which was also very important bc we didn't want to pay the person price that most venues charge since we knew only half of the guests would be drinking.

What are you looking to spend on a venue? We could make some suggestions if we had a little more information.

We have booked AEC for our reception, and they are having a taste test this Thursday in case you were interested. It is $10/pp unless you have placed a deposit. Various vendors will also be there.

I am having my ceremony and reception at a private school. It is beautiful with vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, and a glass window from floor to ceiling in the front and back of the room., and only $50/hr with use of a pro kitchen for a small extra fee. We are having the reception in the library, and the ceremony outside. This fits us, because we met while in elementary school so long ago. And I love the book centerpiece idea to go with the library! Oh and they will help us get the daily liquor license for $150 so we can have adult beverages too.

You could try searching private schools in your area, you could also check with your local historical society. You may be able to find an old historical mansion to marry at and it may even be free! Just remember to keep your mind open and you'd be amazed at what you can find! Any old court houses in your area that are no longer used for court? You could use that and it would most likely be really cheap, the one I looked at was $20 for a permit and that was all I had to do, other then reserve it.

Okay, after tons of considerations, I think I've decided to spend the bulk of my money on the honeymoon, and purchasing a house. With that being said, I'm looking for a venue that would allow me to have outside vendors, such as a town center, (where I can just rent out the space and have more DIY stuff). Someone suggested a winery in Downtown Dallas, and a co-worker suggested looking into lofts. Has anyone found a venue that would accommodate a 3,000 budget for everything?

One of the cheapest places we came across was the Banquet Room at CCAR in Plano.  Basically, it is a realtor association that has a decent size banquet room that they rent out off hours.  Pricing for Fridays and Sundays starts at $600.  And it's pretty much all DIY which means that you can control the costs of everything.   It's not the most beautiful space you'll ever see, but it's pretty nice for the price.  You can see photos on the website:

Another place we considered for the reception was Sneaky Pete's in Lewisville.  We ended up canceling our appointment b/c we found another place, but my FBIL and FSIL got married there (before I met them), and FSIL said it's pretty affordable and FI said they had a nice reception there.

If you're getting married when it's not too hot and you're open to the outdoors, the fee to rent out Haggard Park in Plano is only $50-$100 depending on residency.  And it's a really cute little park with a gazebo.

Cafe Max has a banquet hall that I've heard is affordable, but for us communication was slow so we gave up on them.  (And they have the best chicken salad (no mayo, which is why I love it!)--FI had it flown to surprise me when he proposed!

We also considered the Courtyard Theater in Plano.  For six hours on the weekend it's only $367 if you know someone who's a resident.  Basically you could get married in the theater and then set up a reception in the foyer.

If you're getting married in a church (or open to getting married in a church) there are a lot of places that have really affordable reception options on-site--though typically if you are ok with having a booze-free reception.  With your budget though you may want to consider just doing a cake and punch reception--early afternoon or morning (between meals) would probably be ideal for that.

Another place worth looking into is The Loft in Plano. It may be out of your budget, but it's BYOB, which would help.  And the woman who worked there had TONS of vendor and budget suggestions, so I'd say it's worth meeting with her whether you go with them or not.
