FDA BC RECALL: Lo/Ovral-28 and Norgestrel/Ethinyl Estradiol

This was on the news this morning, and I didn't see a post, so I wanted to share in case anyone is on those pills.

CN C&P: An investigation by Pfizer found that some blister packs may contain an inexact count of inert or active ingredient tablets and that the tablets may be out of sequence.

I saw this earlier today.  I use a different brand of pill.  What I want to know is, the active and inactive pills are different colors, so wouldn't a woman notice?  Or did the factory actually make the pills the wrong color?  My inactives have always been a VERY different color, like yellow or pink or something obvious.  Or they were white and the real ones were yellow, etc.

  • Thanks for the PSA Emily!

Thankfully I'm not on that brand but I'm always grateful for the heads up.

Amanda: I'm assuming that the pills were the wrong color. Which is terrifying, lol.

  • ya, it sounds like they were either the wrong color or they failed to put the active ingredients in some of them. Can the manufacturer be sued for any pregnancies caused this way?

<div>Could you imagine if you knew your parents sued a BC company because their error resulted in you?! Nothing says love like a settlement for a kid you didn't want! </div>

<div>True, I didn't think about that. Though, some of us (meaning me) are banking on our BCP working because I can't be giving birth to our first child while I am student teaching.</div>

</div><div>We totally are too. We're working on masters degrees and FI has more school after this. Babies are not in the short-term future! I would be TICKED if I got preggers b/c of their mistake.</div>

  • I actually just got off the phone with my pharmacy because I take the BC that was recalled. I didn't have the same "lot #" so I was fine.

If I got pregnant due to this, I would definitely sue, BECAUSE I loved my child.  A settlement would be the only way DH and I could afford to feed a baby!

  • There's an article on slate.com on the can-you-sue issue. I studied the issue in grad school. Slate's right, if people are truly interested/curious.

Since the reports say the pills missed a proper visual inspection, I assume they weren't in the usual color patterns. I don't know how many patients would catch that and ask/complain, and how many would shrug and take them anyway. The papers with my pills always say they're "dark yellow," but I've never seen a paler yellow. I'd certainly ask/complain if a package came back with the color pattern different, not just "dark" v. "pale," which can be in the eye of the beholder.
