Cosmetologist friend is doing my hair and makeup, how much should I pay her?

My friend is a cosmetologist who will be doing my hair and makeup at my home for my wedding. She is also doing several trials with my hair and makeup and I want to reimburse her for some of the products she will be using on me because they are expensive, What would be a good amount to give her?

  • Why don't you ask her how much she normally charges for these services and pay her that, plus extra for the trials and include a tip.
  • My friend is doing my hair in lieu of a wedding present and I'm gifting her a local downtown certificate for $50. She usually charges $40 for hair and she refused my cash several times so I figured this is a pretty safe route.

  • I'm in the exact same situation. I just asked. She is doing me for free as a wedding gift, and gave me prices for my mom and bridesmaids.

You would pay her the same amount she would charge for those services. Pretend she isn't your friend, and pay her :)

  • If she's doing specifically "as your wedding gift", this means she doesn't expect payment so I would just ask her how much the materials cost and reimburse her for that.  However if didn't specifically offer to do it "as your gift" I would pay her her normal rate + a tip.  If you don't know what her normal rate is, I would look at what other people charge in your area and round up a little.

  • Same boat here! My future niece actually approached me and asked me could she please do my hair and maid of honors hair and maybe make up. She is doing it becasuse she wants to do it and she enjoy doing what she does! not to mention, like it or not  i will be good advertising for her awesome work! What I am going to do is just pay for her hotel room for the night of the wedding. Her and her boyfriend will be getting a room at the hotel we are having the wedding at so i am just going to pay for her room ahead of time and possibly put a nice gift basket in the room!
