September 2012 Weddings

New to the board and starting to panic!!

Hello everyone. I have been enjoying looking at everyone's board and it didn't take me long to post on the board. I am a September 15 bride and very much a DIY bride. Time is winding down quickly and I'm feeling overwhelmed and starting to panic that I will not get everything taken care of. I would appreciate any and all advise I can get!

Re: New to the board and starting to panic!!

  • Morning & Welcome to the board

First, take a deep breath. Everything will get done! It seems overwhelming & like it won't but just relax and keeping telling yourself you can do this!

Secondly, prioritize your projects. Work on the projects are most important and that you must have for the wedding first and if there is time for other things, they'll get done! What are you working on? Perhaps one of us fellow brides has some advice or tips for you on your projects =]

  • I agree but I also encourage getting help. NO not that type of help! Haha. I mean if there is anyway you can have friends sit with you, even if its to do something as simple as tie bows, or glue small details on, or whatever you are working on. My BMs are OOT and I have had a number of friends offer to help me assemble centerpieces. My problem is I do not have the time to even sit down and START.
  • I agree with prioritizing, especially this late in the game. Figured out what projects you feel must MUST have for the wedding, what one's you'd like to have and what ones it would be nice but not necessary to have and complete them in that order. That way if you dont' get something done, its not something that is necessary in your eyes.

Secondly, is there any you can delegate out, whether its a craft friend, or Etsy? Knocking a few projects off can give a HUGE load of relief. Is there anything you realize you don't really care if its there and you can cut? I recently decided rather than making place cards and escort cards I'd cut those entirely and just do one seating chart with assigned tables. Making those cuts off my list felt GREAT even though it was only a couple things!

Also, look at the projects you have that you do want and figure out if there is anyway you can make them easier on yourself. A couple minor changes to my centrepieces made it so that I could make them twice as fast and they still looked amazing. Little changes like this let you keep the projects AND get them done.

Lastly, as PP mentioned, get some help. If there is anyone offering to help you, don't turn their offers down! A girls night of getting projects done is a lot of fun and takes a lot off your list.

If you have any questions/concerns the ladies on here are amazing and have always helped me out! I am a very heavily DIY bride so I totally understand!
  • Welcome!  We are date twins!  It is coming up fast, but don't worry, everything will get done.  And if it doesn't, you will still be married!  The ladies above gave great advice.  Prioritize.  The list might seem large now, but it will get smaller one by one.

Once upon a time, there was a boy who loved a girl, and her laughter was a question he wanted to spend his whole life answering.
  • Welcome!!  I go through phases of feeling overwhelmed, too.  I figured out I was taking on everything myself, which is of course going to stress me out.  Definitely ask for help when you need it!  Keep in mind at the end of the day, all those little touches are nice to have, but are not going to make or break your celebration!

If you share what all you still have to do we could probably help make suggestions and prioritize. Sometimes writing it all out can be a huge help.

  • I am amazed at the wonderful words of encouragement and support that I have received after posting late last night. I had a long day at work after not sleeping at all last night but I'm hoping to get the list together and post pictures of some of my DIY stuff tomorrow. Thank you all again!! The support here is amazing.
