Last night I parked my car after I drove home from work, and I found a kitten in the bushes! He was so skinny and his fur was so dirty so I took him inside. He just let me pick him up and carry him. He spent 15 minutes eating because he was so hungry. We recognized him from a poster for a lost cat. We called the number, but the people lied and said they already found their cat. Apparently, they don't want him back

He's very well behaved and so friendly. He even walked on a leash!
Here are pictures of him laying on the bed and sitting on the couch with his leash on.
Re: I found a kitten! PIP
That's crappy about his owners but it sounds like they weren't that great to begin with.

He's definitely not fixed. I think his owners probably got rid of him, because they didn't want to pay to have him fixed. There's an organization in Las Vegas that does low cost spay & neuter and gives the first set of shots for only $50. We used them for our cat, and they did a good job. I just wish people would think a little more about the cost and responsibility it takes to care for a pet.
I once found a dog name Toby and we took him in. It was kinda late when we found him but we called his owner anyways. They did not answer and we were able to get hold of her the next day. She had been gone for the evening so she did not even know he was missing.
It turns out he belonged to someone up the street but had no way of getting back into his yard once he got out. His owner came and picked him up but he got out 2 more times that day and came back to our house. He would sit outside our door and bark. I guess he liked us lol.

BF and I got our cat by finding him when he was a tiny kitten, with his 5 brothers and sisters and mom, in our alley. We trapped them with tuna, brought them inside, and found them all homes via Craigslist, except the mom, who went to a no-kill shelter. It took about 2 weeks. We got Marlon neutered for free (it would only have been $39 anyway) because the spay & neuter clinic here has a grant right now and we qualified for free service. They also gave him his rabies shot and clipped his claws. Free. It was awesome.
Here they are. Marlon's in the back, right side.
ETA: Clockwise from top left: Jermaine, Michael, Marlon, Tito, Randy.
And here is Marlon the other day, sleeping in one of BF's drum shells:
I tell him that Marlon should be the mascot for his drum business, but he says he needs something more bada$$, like a bear or a badger. Silly boy.
ETA: Hope you don't see this post and think I'm being a huge AW. Your finding the kitten just really made me want to tell you this story!

I love cats.
And I think you should keep him. I hope your roommate agrees.
One of my cats was a stray who showed up as a kitten on my friend's porch. He's not a kitten anymore, though.
The only pictures I took are on my phone, so I don't have many good ones yet. But here's the actual full size one of him on his leash, and also a picture of him demanding BF to pet him. He will grab your hand and push it down on his head. He practically pets himself. He slept in the bed last night, but we had to give him a bath first, because he was so dirty and smelly.
P.S. Marley, my BF is also obsessed with bears and badgers. He's into powerlifting so I think he's on an endless quest to find the manliest things the world has to offer.
[QUOTE]Marlon and his siblings are soooo cute, Marley! They look like they might be part Saimese. I'm glad their story had such a good outcome, and I'm glad you took the time to help it have such a good ending. The only pictures I took are on my phone, so I don't have many good ones yet. Aw, cute! LOL at the making your BF pet him. :) Marlon does that sometimes. That's so funny about the bears and badgers, too! He also mentions wolverines. Ha. The funny thing is that BF's full-time job is at a small business he and his parents own, and it's named after his parents' dog. So hey, I'm not asking for Marlon to be in the name of the drum business (it has a great name already), but I think he should be the mascot, durnit!
Good for you, with the BF into power lifting, yes? ;-) Mine lifts things on the job. I love his arms. :)

Fi's grandma had a friend whose dog would do the same thing. Eventually, the original owners just let Gram's friend keep him.

My colleague found a little blind dog on her doorstep in April, and I ended up taking him in for a few weeks until we could find him a home. He had clearly been somebody's pet, but it didn't seem like anyone was looking for him. We think he was owned by an old person or couple since he was used to constant attention and being on your lap all day, and when he went blind (cataracts), they just let him go. Because he was blind, we knew he'd get put down as soon as we took him to a shelter, so we held on to him until we could find someone to take him.
Luckily, one of BF's classmates had a 8 year old son who really wanted a dog. A happy family! Oh, and they're saving up to get him corrective eye surgery so he can see!
We saw another stray dog a few weeks ago, and I made BF stop the car and try to pick up the dog, but it was skittish and wouldn't let us near him. I hope he found his way home!
The cats around my house don't have a home or an owner, and they're feral and mean. I make a big distinction between domesticated cats and feral cats. I just wish more people would spay/neuter so strays don't become a nuisaince and a hazard.
I have 2 inside cats. My FI is horribly allergic to them, so I am going to have to find them a good home (where I can have vistation rights) before the wedding. I refuse to take them to a shelter, they are my children. If I can't find them a home, FI is going to have to take medicine or get shots.
I also have been feeding an outside cat for about 2 1/2 years. It had been nicknamed OC (short for outside cat). When I first found it, it had big bald spots where it has lost all its hair and it was skin and bones. Since I started feeding it, it now has a full, shiny coat of hair and is FAT! I would like to take her in, but my vet told me all the outside cats in the area have feline AIDS and that my cats would also catch it. So, I built it a home in the backyard and feed it daily
Good luck with the kitten!!
All of my pets are rescues (except for my hamster). We have four cats and a dog.
I found two kittens once, in a box in a parking lot where someone had abandoned them. They were so sweet. Thankfully, through Craigslist, I found them a home (together!) the same day I found them.

The fact that the cat's hair grew back just with quality food may be a sign that it doesn't have FIV. Most of the time a cat with an immune disease won't be able to heal quickly or at all without medication. You could try catching the cat and taking it to the vet to get tested and vaccinated for rabies. Some vets will give you a discount if you explain it's not your own cat, but a stray that you are trying to help.
