vent

So people were all concerned about the whole hotel thing so I did the whole hotel block and out of 20 rooms total I think 4 rooms got booked through the block.

Re: vent

  • i hear ya, me and FMIL drove all over GJ and Fruita looking at hotels and trying to find the right ones because FI's extended family was SSSOOOO anxious to get rooms booked all at the same place.  So I arranged for room blocks at three different hotels.

fast forward to a couple weeks ago and my mom called to reserve rooms for us and asked how many rooms from my block were reserved and the lady said ZERO!!!  WTH people?!  really?!
  • I know our guests are procrastinating on blocking the rooms too!  We have six currently booked and our block is only being held till Thursday.  I know a lot more people that say they are staying that haven't booked yet!!

  • Our guests are not staying at the hotel where we have a block of rooms saved so I understand your annoyance!

The hotel where we blocked off room is literally right next door to the reception location so we figured it would be great for our guests to stay there since they wouldn't have to worry about driving anywhere after the wedding. But they have a 2 night minimum (we're sort of a destination wedding) so most of the guests are booking a room in a hotel about 5 miles away since they can do just 1 night there....others are driving home after. It pretty much defeats the purpose of us even getting the block of rooms in the most convenient hotel!

  • Yuck, what a PITA. I'm glad my dad talked me out of doing hotel blocks...don't really need to with such a small headcount. Just one more thing I'd have to worry about.

Good luck you guys, hopefully more guests get on the ball (and stop being such cheapscapes!)
  • Our hotel block was only good till the end of feb because of a ball tournament in the same town that weekend. I pushed and urged people to book before then because it was realllly good prices, but only our wedding party and 3 others did. It kinda feels like wasted time since now everyones scrambling for rooms when I was very clear about the blocks and end dates, and virtually the only people who actually took advantage of it was people we had booked rooms for and got to pay us back (we wanted the wedding party all at teh same place for convenience). Oh well, ce la vie, people are welcome to scramble and spend more money if they can't pay attnetion to emails/phone calls and info on the wedding website that became the point in which its thier problem not mine.

  • I spent hours looking at hotels to add to our wedding website that were nice, but also affordable for our OOT guests. FMIL was on my tail about getting this site up and running with all of this information, including travel information. Then she ends up verbally telling the OOT guests (her family) where to stay and how to make travel arrangements, and when they have questions about things they ask her, instead of looking on our website or asking FI and I.

I feel like I wasted so much time creating an informative site that OOT guests have found irrelevant.
