Living in Britain, Wedding in North America, In registry limbo

Hi everyone!

I currently live in England (met my future husband here!), but due to the fact that I have a much larger family and a bigger circle of friends back home we have decided to get married back in Canada, where I am from. Not to mention the ill-conceived planning issues, I am also concerned about a registry. As we currently live in England, though we have a '5 year plan' to eventually move back to Canada, I think registering for gifts doesn't make much sense as we will not be able to get items over to the UK very easily after the wedding and, if we were to register in England, then it would be possibly more expensive for people to buy gifts.

Has anyone been through anything similar? What have you done? What should I do? Will people just assume that monetary gifts make more sense? I suppose the same goes for Wedding Showers. eeeeeep.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry I didn't answer the question.

I'm I baker and really want silicone bake ware, so I'm doing that, easy to fit in a suitcase, sheet and towels, other small kitchen stuff, new suitcases. Then going to register here, not sure where yet though. I REALLY want a kitchen aide mixer, but there cost a bloody fortune here!

I got a full set of silicone bakeware at my shower in April. It was so easy to roll it up and stuff it in my suitcase. I love it!

Unfortunately Amazon doesn't work to well in Canada - the canadian site is very limited compared to the american one.

This is a far more common situation than I thought - my fiance's god sister is in precisely the same situation, I believe.. how interesting..

I would say that if you're not really registering for gifts, then you shouldn't be accepting a shower...since the whole point is to give you gifts.
