Vendor Reviews

Hi everyone - I just got married on 4/24 and I thought I'd write some reviews on my vendors:

Venue: One World Theatre
OWT was such a perfect setting for our reception (ceremony was at a church).  We had dinner in the plaza area under the tent.  The salads were served, then tables were released a few at a time to go through the buffet lines.  OWT uses Word of Mouth catering and it was so delicious.  I heard from several of my guests say it was the best wedding food they'd ever had.  We had Chilean sea bass, goat cheese stuffed beef, and pecan crusted chicken.  Sides were green beans, potato gruyere croquettes, spinach/artichoke dip, and hot buttermilk biscuits.  YUM!

Coordinator: BZ Events
Cortney with BZ events helped me throughout my wedding planning process, and two BZ assistants Kerry and Gray helped her on the wedding day.  They were all so wonderful from start to finish, and the wedding day was PERFECT.  BZ offers their services a la carte, so if you want to do something on your own, you don't have to pay them to help you with it, which makes them very affordable.  Best decision I made during this process was hiring Cortney early on.

Band: Blind Date
Blind Date was AWESOME.  They had 2 minor technical difficulties with fuses blowing, but they assured me that's never happened before and it was just a random event.  My guests loved them and people were on the dance floor all night.

Cakes: Simon Lee
Judy at Simon Lee was great to work with.  I had the impression that their cakes are really expensive, but we wanted very simple designs and flavors, so it actually ended up being much cheaper than I thought.  My husband wanted a specific design on his cake, and she got it exactly right and didn't charge us for the extra details :)

Florist: Petal Pushers
Petal Pushers was great to work with, but I was disappointed in a few things.  Most of my centerpieces were outstanding, but on the tables that were supposed to have manzanita branches, I was disappointed that there was only 1 branch stuck in the flowers.  I thought it would be more of a cluster of branches.  Also, I was disappointed that they charged a fee for delivering my bouquet for the portraits.  They are all the way out in Dripping Springs so I understand it's a long drive, but we weren't aware they would do this.  Overall I was pleased, just wanted to list a few comments for everyone to be aware of.

Dress: Unbridaled
This was my best experience in Austin.  Alexia Gavela had a little bit better prices, but I thought the selection at Unbridaled was great, and the girls that work there are so sweet.  I got an Augusta Jones dress and I'm not sure where else in Austin even carries that line.  Plus the store has great accessories.

Harpist: Louisa Ellis Woodson
Louisa was fantastic, and very reasonably priced.  She was extremely responsible, sent me a demo CD right away, and was very organized with the consultation and arrival at the church on the wedding day.  Her website is www.louisaharp.com.

Iron Rentals: Mancino Irons
Alan at Mancino was great, their prices are really good, and they have TONS of great decorative pieces to rent for your reception and ceremony.  I especially liked this wrought iron 6 foot tree that I hung all of my place cards on.  I also rented these beautiful candleabras for the ceremony.  Definitely check them out if that's your style.

Hair/Makeup: Rae Cosmetics
April from Rae Cosmetics did my makeup, and they use Miranda to do bridal hair.  I loved them BOTH.  They were very laid back and were open to suggestions.  Although they were a little more expensive than I was originally planning, I definitely think it was worth it.  They do charge a travel fee if you decide to get ready somewhere other than the studio, but they were on time and very efficient too.

Photographer: Andy with Studio563
LOVE LOVE LOVE Andy.  He was so funny and easy to work with, and captured great shots at the wedding.  Hands down best photographer I met with.  I also met Ashley at Studio563 and she was super sweet and I've seen her work it's great as well.

Videographer: Jonathan Holt with The Wedding Theatre
I kind of hired the videographer at the last minute, so I didn't have much interaction with him, and I haven't yet seen the video, but Jonathan was easy to work with for payment, contract, etc. and the price is good compared to a lot of videographer fees I've seen.  I will write more about this once I see the video, but as of now I have no complaints!
