Bridesmaid dress help

I'm struggling with picking dresses for my girls!  I like the concept of I pick the designer, color, fabric, you pick the style (with my help, I'll probably narrow it down to 3-4 different choices so it doesn't look all over the place).  I'm having such a hard time seeing styles that "go" together!  The only options I've found that I love are super expensive, darn you Lela Rose!

Any designers out there I should be looking into more closely?  I want plum dresses, hopefully floor-length, in a satin or silk, $200 per dress or less!

Otherwise I need to start saving my money and buying the LR dresses for my girls! So purty.

I used Alfred Angelo, and they were really affordable (around $100), and I was really happy with how the look turned out.  I went to Brides and Grooms to get my girls dresses, and got 15% off all of them because I got my dress there.

I will be honest with you:

One, if you pick the stuff you want (Make, Color, Fabric), they will go together, no matter the style.  Promise.  Every single wedding I have been to where the girls have worn different styles, it has always looked "together"; most people will only notice the color, not the style, so everything will look fine when it comes together.  Really!  To be honest, one of the best weddings with a "look" was my cousin's wedding.  She had 7 bridesmaids, and told the girls to go with long in sea blue.  Didn't matter what style, and didn't care what fabric, either.  It looked AMAZING.  Every girl looked different, comfortable, and flattering in the style they chose, but it all looked pulled together because of the length and color.  It really was very chic, and very well done.

Two, if you try to pick out a few dresses that "go together", and have your girls pick from that, someone is bound to be unhappy.  Let's say you want strapless.  My older sister, who has had 5 kids and is a bit self-conscious (unjustly, in my opinion, and I keep telling her that), would have KILLED me- she wanted something with straps and support.  Let the girls get whatever style they are comfy in, and go with that.  Not only will they feel comfy, it will show in your day as well (both in person and in pictures)- they will look comfy, and will be more relaxed and will look it in pictures, and will act it all day long.  Trust me, watching someone constantly pull a strapless dress up all night long under the armpits because they are not comfy and are self- conscious is not fun for them, nor fun to watch for you or your guests.

Every person who have talked to that went with the idea you have- make, color, fabric, and you choose your dress from that- has always, always been happy.  It creates for less drama, less time spent in the shop picking out dresses that please everyone, more comfort for them on the day of, and more use out of the dresses (since most girls will pick dresses that they like and are comfortable in, they are more likely to wear them again, even if they are shortened in the process).  On the flip side, I have talked to many a bride who have said they regretted NOT letting their BMs wear what they wanted, for the very reasons I listed above.

Stick with your plan, let the girls get what they want, and trust me, you will thank yourself.

I sent my girls to David's Bridal with a color and let them choose.  I think one girl's dress was a different fabric and they still looked good:

Here is a picture of my cousin's wedding that I talked about.  As you can see, it looked really good (the maid and matron are in a different color, just so you know that it was meant to be that way and isn't a goof on the fabric LOL):  Click to make it larger.

Check out bill levkoff euro eggplant if you're going for a plum color. Thants what my girls are wearing below. The plum color in the links you posted is actually very close to Davids Bridal Lapis so I would check them out too.

Thanks for all the tips! And Mrs. BR, you're right - the sky blue dresses, stunning!  Makes me kind of wish I was having more than 4 girls in my party. :)

For my cousin's wedding last year, we all wore black dresses.  She said go buy a black dress... I don't care what style, just so long as it isn't floor length.  And I got my dress on sale at Ann Taylor for $40.  So don't forget about regular clothing stores, also.  I think regular price my dress was $139 or something around there.  Ann Taylor has great dresses, as does J Crew and Anthropologie.  They're pricier than what you'd find at some place like H&M, Deb, or Wet Seal, but it's higher quality clothing and not as pricey as some of the bridal shops.
Paprika: I like it when you burp in my ear. It really turns me on.
