Change of venue= change of dress?

Hello all.
This is my first post on here so please bear with me.

Okay, so, I found a lovely dress- the Alfred Angelo 2000 this summer at a great sale price and fell in love with it. At the time, it fit perfectly with my location as I was planning to have a beautiful and charming outside wedding at a bed and breakfast.

However, now plans have changed. My fiance really wanted to have an indoor ceremony in his home church. It broke (and still honestly breaks) my heart to not have it outside but he so rarely asks for anything and I couldn't even begin to live with the thought of disappointing him, so I finally agreed. I, personally, am still pretty broken-hearted but that's a different post.

...Anyway, since the location changed, I am starting to worry that the beautiful dress that I chose specifically for the outside location does not fit the indoor church more traditional wedding that we are now going to have. I have started looking again and have found (but unfortunately have yet to try on) two dresses that I love nearly as much as the first dress.

So, now I need help!!! I need to know if the original dress is too casual. And if it is, I need to know which will best fit the church wedding.

Thank you so much!!!!

Below are the dresses.

The first dress:
Alfred Angelo 2000

The 2 new dresses are:
Casablanca 1900

and the
Sottero and Midgley VSM7047

Does such a dress exist? : wedding 67258.vsm7047 Front

Re: Change of venue= change of dress?

  • Stick with your first dress hon...it's beautiful!!!

(besides, I hear it's wise to steer clear of the chinese wedding dress thing...)
  • I think the first dress is perfectly fine for a church wedding. Don't worry about shopping for another, go with the dress you have. It is very beautiful and has lots of details.
  • Your first choice is beautiful and will not look out of place at a church wedding.

Sorry you're disappointed about your venue change, but keep in mind that you can still get plenty of beautiful photos outdoors on your wedding day. You could even do a "first look" with your groom outdoors before the ceremony starts.
  • I don't think you should change your dress just because your venue changed, both dresses are beautiful but I absolutely love the 2nd dress.

Ditto pp about doing a first look. DH and I did this and it was an amazing emotional experience and we got awesome pictures from it. We wouldn't change that for anything.

Stick with your first dress.  I love it, It is absolutely gorgeous, and IMHO perfectly appropriate for either wedding venue!  As an aside - I'm partial to non-strapless dresses!

If the having photos outdoors is important to you, definitely talk to FI about this.

Are you concerned that your AA dress isn't formal enough for a church?  If that's the case, could you look for a bolero or something for the ceremony?  I find that boleros sometimes make a dress look a bit more formal, and you can choose to wear it or not for photos and the reception.

(PS - stop looking at dresses!  it will save you a lot of worry and agony!!)

ETA - I know this is off-topic, but it sounds like you're really disappointed about not having the wedding where you want it. Is it possible to still have the reception at the B&B you had your heart set on?  DEFINITELY talk to FI about this before it's too late to change plans.  If you're "heart-broken" about the change in plans, he should know and you two should work towards something you can both be excited about.  Good luck!

  • I think the first and third ones would both work-- the question is, do you want/can you afford to buy two wedding dresses? I think either of these would be fine for a church

  • I think the Casablanca one is so similar to the first one- just keep the first one you like! I think its fine for a church ceremony.

The Sottero Midgely is in a whole different direction- so if you love your first one, just keep it! You can always add a different veil to make you feel more "churchlike" lol I don't know I'm making up words- however I think your gown as is is completely fine.

  • Okay, so I'm in the minority here but I LOVE the Casablanca.  I tried it on and considered it for my wedding.  I wish there were more occasions to wear these gorgeous dresses to so I could've picked more than one.  My dress was in a church (A historic California Mission).  I think this dress is very versatile and you could do it up with a veil or make it more casual/outdoorsy with a hair accessory.

That said, your first dress still totally works!  It sounds like you still love it and don't love the others quite as much.  So go with the first one.  You don't have to change your dress just because the venue changed.  If you were getting married outdoors in December..hmmm maybe.  Or in a Mormon church....ok for sure.  But not in this case :)
