Reception Venues

Hi-

I am recently engaged and new to the knot boards.  We are hoping to have our wedding in 2010, and we are aware locations are sparse for this year.  We have a few venues in mind that are available, I would appreciate any feedback.  Good or Bad.  Thanks!

Available:
Miller Room
Sheraton-Brookfield
War Memorial
Italian Community Center

Waiting to hear back on:
Joey Buona's
Schlitz Audobon

I just went to a wedding at the Sheraton in Brookfield this fall.  The location was pretty.  I didn't like the food that they served, but then again I am a picky eater.  They did buffet style and the butfet line was outside of the room.  The tables were also set up REALLY close together where you couldn't get in between them so most people stood in the hallway after dinner.  The bar was shoved in a corner so people really couldn't get to it either.  If you did this location I would just make sure that you rent enough room for your guests and put the bar in a better location rather than in a corner!

I really liked Joey Buonas and was going to use them for my wedding but they were already booked when I was interested :(

I've seen good feedback on here about the War Memorial and my FI and I toured it and Amanda was sweet... We strongly considered it, but my anti-war father quietly said he didn't feel comfortable with a wedding at a war memorial... He is paying for some of it, so we kept looking.

Sheraton- I have also been to a wedding there. It was long before I was engaged and cared about wedding stuff, but it's nice, a little dark and I feel like there was another wedding going on there at the same time, which is sorta annoying, but I could be wrong...

Joeys- I said this on another recent post, but we had a deposit for there but went a cheaper route. Its nice and the food is great, just eat there some time and try the Italian nachos--- amazing.  If you need July 31st, we gave it up this past month :-P
    Good luck!

War Memorial is great, but hard to get...depending on what time of year you are looking at. We looked last July for August 2010 and all summer was booked...even Friday nights. I like the Italian Community Center...nice and big. Wasn't nuts about the Miller Room...if that is the bigger of the rooms at coast...the view is great, but the room itself has low ceilings and just kind of drab. Number one vote for me would be Schlitz Audobon. We have too big of a family to do ours there, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Very pretty, and would be so cool for a fall 2010 wedding!! Say early Oct when the leaves are at their brightest!
    Good Luck!!!

We looked at Schlitz Audubon and War Memorial. I loved Schlitz Audubon, but it just wasn't "us" - very lodge-y and nature-y. We live in downtown Chicago and love the city, so this didn't really match with who we are, even though it is super pretty and fun for us to visit. My one watchout is go and make sure you understand how/where the tables are set based on the number you are having.

As for the War Memorial, WOW great view and can't beat that price. The tricky thing for this one is to be able to use the outdoor space, which is hard to get (similar to toni, we looked in April 2009 and the only dates for 2010 were for April or earlier or November or later, and that made it super iffy to use the outdoor space. We toured on 4/24/09 and it was a torrential downpour.)

For what it's worth, we ended up at Pier Wisconsin and I've never looked back.... (at venue, anyway...)

    Good luck!

I've nothing but positives to say for Joey Buona's.  They are going to cater my wedding this summer offsite.  They have a gorgeous restaurant (just too expensive for us) and the staff has been the easiest to work with.  Their contact person had been out of the office (maternity leave) but just returned this week.

I talked to a guy at the Italian Community Center the other day.  They were booked for my date, but he spent 20 minutes on the phone with me (zero prompting on my part) looking up other places I could try.  I can't say anything about the venue itself, but he completely wins for niceness and helpfulness!

The room, food, and service were all great at Italian Community Center when I was a guest at a wedding.
Have not been to the others, only seen photos.
    Good Luck and Congratulations!
