No Response from Cathedral!

Help! I am planning our wedding from Louisville and was told we couldn't make an appointment with the cathedral until we had a letter from our priest over seeing our pre marital counseling. After our priest had cancelled on us twice I finally got a letter faxed and a paper copy mailed to the church Wednesday. Since then I have called and left voicemails to try and schedule an appt because we are going to be in NOLA next weekend!!! It would be such a waste of money if we go down and don't see/reserve the cathedral. I guess my big question is, has anyone else had this problem? Should we just show up at the church without an appt? Ah! Help!u

Re: No Response from Cathedral!

  • This is normal with the Cathedral, so don't freak out.  ;) However, you do have to remain diligent to get in touch with them.  Do you already have a date tentatively set with the Cathedral and they are just waiting for the letter to solidify the date? You can take care of reserving and paying the deposit over the phone and through mail.  You don't have to do it in person.  If you are wanting to see the church in person to make a decision, you don't need the coordinators to do that either.  I'm sure you know the high demand of the Cathedral for weddings.  It usually takes at least a week for the coordinators to call you back.  They usually return calls in the evening (around 6pm).  Tonight is a very good time for you to try to call them around 6 when they are there.  A Friday evening was the only time I ever returned Kevin's calls and he actually answered the phone.

  • Hey Britt!

The Cathedral is tricky because of how popular the Cathedral is and the people who handle the weddings (I think it's just two or three of them) aren't there 9-5 everyday.  The best day to call is on Friday, because they are usually there during the day trying to get situated for that weekends weddings and rehearsals.

Because they're not there all the time, people call and leave them messages non-stop and then on Fridays when they get in, they have oodles of messages to respond to so it does take time!

In case you are wondering, yes I did get married at the Cathedral and I had to book my wedding a year and a half out to get a date with them and it took a lot of phone calls!!!  It's a stunning church and really they are used to people calling wanting to book, not people who aren't sure who want to take a look at it before they decide!  Hopefully that gives you a better idea of what's going on!  If you have any other questions, just let me know!
  • If you just want to look inside the cathedral to see it you should be able to do this during your visit as long as there isn't a mass going on.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • And actually, if there's a mass, you can go in, but if there's a wedding, you won't be allowed in!  I forgot to mention that if you don't hear back before you make your trip down, stop by on Friday during the day.  Their office is located in the alley to the right of the church.  There will be a door on your right of the alley where the Rectory is.  Just tell them that you're a bride and someone should be able to help you from there!
  • Thanks!! Someone called my fiancé back. We are supposed to try and catch a coordinator between weddings on saturday so we know what to do! I hope that's not totally a pain!
  • SOmetimes you just hafta do it!
