Corsages and boutonnieres... thoughts?

So Im having a very small wedding, and even smaller wedding party. There will be 1 bridesmaid and 1 best man. I was asking FI the other day what he thought about omitting corsages for the moms and boutonnieres for the dads and men (maybe doing a hankerchief instead for the men). He said it really didn't matter to him if I felt I could still implement the colors to my liking. Im thinking this is an area I could probably save some money, assuming it doesn't look bad that Im missing corsages and boutonnieres. So what are your thoughts? I would need a minimum of 2 corsages for the moms and 5 boutonnieres for the men, dads and my son. 

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

    We have a small wedding party and aren't doing either for anyone.  The men will have pocket squares.  My mother thinks corsages are better for proms then for grown women at weddings and FMIL's culture doesn't do this anyway.

    I have a big WP and am doing bouts for the guys. We are doing corsages for moms. TBH, the bouts were very inexpensive and I thought corsages were reasonable too. But If you choose not to have them, I think that's fine too.

    We're skipping both. My mom's not really the corsage type and my FI said boutonnieres feel "too prom." It saved money and I don't really care either way.

    I'm letting my mom make all the corsage decisions since I really have no idea what would look good, nor is it a detail I want to worry about.  She'll figure out something inexpensive and nice.  

    As for bouts, I don't think there's anything wrong with skipping that (or even with skipping the corsages for a small wedding).  I think the handkerchiefs would be cute.  You could always do a nonfloral boutonniere.  I've seen them done with fabric flowers or even old keys and a ribbon.

    I don't think there is anything wrong with shippikg them.
    I have seen people make bouts for the guys our of small action figures, keys and even little tractors.
    I am having a friend make me fabric ones, they will double as hair clips so afterwards they can be given to the little girls. And they should only cost me $3 each.

    I like the handkerchief idea. I don't like corsages either, so we are doing 3 roses with some tulle/ribbon for the moms to carry. We are making the flowers on a "handle" made of tulle for them to carry. It's pretty hard to explain, but imagine the "flower ball" idea that you see some bridesmaids carrying, but with three upright roses? lol I plan to post a pic when we get it together.

    Oh yeah, they're completely optional. I know FI is thinking the pocket square idea for the GMs and I still haven't settled on something for my BMs. I'm not a big fan of corsages or boutonnieres anyway.
