Ornery Wedding Photog

Hey y'all, my sister was married in October of 2010, and we have yet to receive any photos from her big day. We have paid in full, and our photog is now not responding to emails and has sold her phone to someone else. We paid more for photos than we did for catering for 250 people!! Please, does anyone have any idea how to resolve this issue without my sis getting screwed out of her photos?? I'm frantic, and I'm about to contact our guest list for their photos of the event just so I can give her SOMETHING to remember her big day... Help!

Take the photographer to court. If it's less than $5000 you can take her to small claims court. The filing fee is usually under $30.

Check online to see if there are other complaints/reviews on this photographer.  There is strength in numbers.

Definately tell the photographer that you are going to pursue legal action, and then start to do it.

Did you sign a contract? & then take them to court

Hey y'all, thanks for all the responses. Some additional info: unfortunately, my mother has only a verbal contract (she was pushed into it by the photog the day of the wedding and was very unsure from the get-go.. kicking herself now). The balance WAS under $5k, but my mother is concerned that if we take her to court, the photos will be destroyed (she's A LOT nicer than I am). Also, there was also an earlier complaint made, on this website actually, regarding this photog... our situations are virtually identical. I'm not sure if hers led to litigation... but I feel certain that ours will. I'll keep y'all posted. Thanks, y'all!

That's SO terrible! There are steps you should take to resolve this peacefully without going the lawsuit/spreading bad reviews route, because that could jeopardize the photos. Send a certified letter outlining a date you need to have the photos by to avoid further legal action. Is the photographer still doing business or did they just pick up and disappear?

According to her website (which is all I have to go on, as she has not answered my emails), she has only two more events scheduled for this year. This is even more worrisome for us, because if she disappears, my sister's photos do also. It's baffling to me why she refuses to simply send a CD to my sister to cover her own ass.
