Bouquets.....

A few quick questions...

My venue, Kendall Reception Hall, only uses one vendor for floral. She's coming over today to discuss my centerpieces. I also wanted to get a quote from her for my bouquet, as well as my bridal party bouquets.

I'm only using calla lillies both in my bouquet and in the centerpieces and I'm wondering....

1) should my bridesmaids have the same bouquet as me, or should I do theirs in hydrangeas?

2) what is the average cost for a bouquet? This florist is not someone whom I'm paying for their brand... Are calla lilly flowers expensive...cheap? I know hydrangeas are economical as I've used them for numerous parties and pay $1 a flower/stem.

3) what other things would I need flowers for? I know the church, st Kevin, asks for 2 floral bouquets to be left after the ceremony, and I'd need an additional bouquet to toss...but is there anything else I'm missing?

Thank you...she's supposed to be here in 30 minutes...I cannot wait!!

Re: Bouquets.....

  • Maybe some kind of altar arrangement? Not everyone uses them but I'm taking over to my reception venue after for my sweetheart table. And if you want your flower girl to have real petals, your florist can provide that. Also, if you want your guys to have bouts and your Mom/MIL/GMA's to have corsages.

  • Well, I'm a little late but I believe calla lillies are a bit expensive but I may be wrong so double check with your florist. It would really depend on the size of the bouquet you want. The good thing about hydrangeas is that they take up a lot of space which reduce the overall amount of flowers you will need. Regarding your BMs bouquets, they do not really need to be the same flowers as your bouquet. For example, my BMs will be having different flowers than mine (not all but some). You can do hydrangeas and maybe another flower which accents their dress or one of your main wedding colors.
  • So, here are the prices and breakdown she gave me... My package with the venue includes one floral centerpiece per table, renting their vases and 2 additional arrangements. She said the two additional arrangements were for the gift and signin tables. I asked to modify that...so now one arrangement will be on our table and the other on the signin table.... I was very disappointed because she was that traditional Miami florist that sticks to the "traditional" way of things and most arrangements she showed me were plain ugly, to me. Our venue is with a modern decor, very much our style, and the flowers just did not match. Lots of greenery with sporadic roses (or input other flower) and very high up. My ideal centerpiece is: one tall cylinder vase with two calla Lilly summered in water. No previous floral experience is needed to complete this look. The head table centerpiece will be 3 round bunches of hydrangeas in white with blue orchids in the midst. Then for the signin table, she is charging an extra $20 for a small vase, curly willow, and blue orchids on some of the branches, with a couple rhinestones hanging from it. I just don't understand why she's charging more for that...... Are curly willows expensive? She's charging $40 for my bouquet (calla Lilly with blue orchids) and $30 for my bridesmaids (hydrangeas with blue orchids) and holy cow, I have 8 bridesmaids..lol Then she's charging $180 for the two arrangements I need to leave at the church. So far it'll be a tall vase, curly willow branches, hydrangea bunches on the rim of the vase and blue orchids on the branches. Again, is $90 each a little much?? I cannot take these arrangements with me... Guys boutiners is $10 for groom and $8 for fathers and groomsmen. Mothers corsages are $20 or $15 pinned. We may skip all of this as I don't technically like it and it's another $160 to spend....at minimum What do you ladies think?? Are these prices reasonable??

  • I think the prices are reasonable, but I have only dealt with 2 florists.  The prices were very similar.

  • The venue can force you to use their florist for their property but not for your personal flowers like your bouquets, boutonnieres and corsages.
  • Those prices dont sound so bad. This one florist wanted to charge me $100 for 3 glass cylinders with hydrangeas floating in them and $125 for a boquet of roses hydrangeas and calla lillies. I think I'm getting ripped off.
