To Hyphenate or Not to Hyphenate?

Check out the article below. Very interesting...and funny article on the issue of hyphenating last names once married:

I love that article, although I am apart of the 86% and gladly.

I am apart of the 86% as well although I have been having a hard time lately with the idea of not having my family's last name anymore...

Awesome article! I totally feel her and agree! I am working on my PhD and would love to keep my name. But my FH FEELS STRONGLY about me dropping my name entirely! I am still battling this myself.

I want to be apart of the 6%, but I don't think hubby is going to let me. I haven't done anything yet to change my name, though. I just like the way it sounds better hyphenated. And since it is still MY name, I think that I should get to decide what it is. But that's just me.

I hyphenated the first time around and it was a PIA!  I have my maiden name back and will be taking FI's last name this time.... (yeah, it was non-negotiable in his mind anyway).  I'm fine with it.  I only considered hyphenating because I earned my PhD and published under my maiden name.  In the grand scheme of things, it's not that big of a deal to me.  I'll be Lisa Michele FI's Last Name (period). Smile

Good article!  I'm not hyphenating, but I don't have a strong tie to my maiden name (it's my dad's last name and we are not very close).  So I'm ready to give it up and take FI's name - ASAP!

I want to be apart of the 6% FI is cool with it some days and then other days he's not. Our kids would only have his last name though, I will decide later.

I liked the article, the comments at the bottom that some posted, totally ticked me off though.

"Perhaps we should ditch the idea of guys spending three months salary on an engagement ring. After all, its just an archaic tradition, right? You femenazi's don't want anything close to equality. You just want ours and yours too. Ridiculous! Your boyfriend or fiancee was right to state that you obviously lack the commitment necessary for a marriage. Men give up plenty to commit to one woman, to provide for her, etc. You should perhaps try to be honored that a man that is proud of his name and heritage would love you enough to GIVE you his name."

Just a plain ignorant a** thing to say, don't get me started.

Yes & yes! Everytime I say my name hyphenated, my FI just looks at me & says, "yeak...ok." I'll probably just take his name so I won't have to hear his mouth.....lol.

I plan on keeping my maiden name and possibly hyphenate. Now on Fb I will hyphenate. Fi is so so till others are around and try to encourage him to get upset. Really, I do not care what others think...I am Shannon blah blah! I love my lastname and been Shannon blah blah for the past 30yrs and plan on keep it, till I take my last breath. I love my fi but his lastname is not a favorite of mine, plus my lastname has history. I have my grandfather's lastname, a man I loved so much. Fbil's wife first name is similar to mine and the IL and others already calls us by the wrong name. I will just let her be Mrs. B.

Im going to be # Team Armstrong all the way!! what we have to realize our men take pride in giving us their last name. It's a honor!! with me getting older and wiser i realize that now. #Team Armstrong

I will be taking FI's last name - it'll be too long to hyphenate my last name and his name. I do love my last name though

I am either hyphenating or adding my current last name to my middle name but I will be keeping it. FI gets mad about it but he already knew where I stood on this. I love my name and I will go by his last name if I hyphenate since our kids will have his last name but I will always be a YOUNG always!
