Budget for Wedding Party Gifts

can someone tell me what the average is for us to spend on the bridesmaid and groomsmen gifts?
I seem to be clueless with this... HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Budget for Wedding Party Gifts

  • I spent about $100 on each of my girls.
  • It really just depends on what your budget is and how much you want to spend. Some girls spend $20pp, some spend $100pp. I'm thinking about $50 each for mine.

  • I think it totally varies - I've been in weddings where the gift was $50 and others where it was $150.  I paid for my girls dresses and jewelry and got them each a $20 gift on top of that, so I spent about $150 each.  FI has fewer groomsmen, so paid for the tuxes and got them each a nicer gift.  He spent a little more per person, but it probably evens out.

  • My feeling about gifts for your bridesmaids is that they should express how you feel about them as well as be something they will enjoy. I'm not big on giving them jewelry to wear for my wedding, seems... not quite 'their gift' but rather like I'm controlling what they wear! JMPO.  I like some of the cute charms they have Pandoras etc. Either start a bracelet for them or get them a charm.  Saw one the other day called 'when pigs fly' ... lol perfect for a bridesmaid who says she'll get married when pigs fly!

My sister got each BM a charm.. a Littman they have "Bridesmaid" and "Maid of Honor" charms. Very cute. She also got me (her MOH) an additional charm that was dark purple, the color of our BM dresses.

I am finding it difficult to decide what the spending budget is here as well. Whenever I read magazines or blogs the budgets always seem SO high to me.. like it depends on your income, how much you can afford to spend, how big your bridal party is, where you live etc.

I am not sure how much I plan to spend so far, my sister recently went above and beyond for each of her bridesmaids, and since she makes a lot more money than I do, I know I will not be able to afford the same (Same goes with the gift she gave to my parents). I am planning to buy them each a necklace to wear the day of, and hopefully a couple of other items. Maybe totaling $100 or a little less each girl. Trying to think of ideas that are personalized, yet uniform at the same time. Like each a bottle of a perfume they like or might like, but all different scents. Or their favorite bottle of wine. No clue what to do...

  • How much can you afford to spend? They won't be concerned so much about how much you spend, so long as you get something they'll actually like.

FWIW, I have 8 girls, so I couldn't spend more than what I did on them. It's already becoming exorbitant and although I love them, I can't spend any more. I bought my girls earrings that they will wear again (on sale for $35 each) and personalized robes ($50 each) and am paying for their hair/makeup, which although isn't a gift, is another thing I'm paying for.

Note: I am not dictating what hair/makeup they do, but I wanted the bonding time, so I am paying for it. Makeup is $75 per girl, and hair is either $40 for a blowout or $85 for an up-do.
