March 2012 Weddings

Work out ?

So in attempt to slim down a little through the hips and thighs (and not have to have alterations) I started a kettlebell work out.  I know you can't chose where your body loses fat but I really want to focus on this area and possibly my arms.  Does anyone have any work out suggestions for these areas?  FI and I walk every day but I really want to kick it up a notch.  I really would like to lose inches in my hips and thighs before the big day.  So what have you guys been doing to prepare for the big wedding day?

Re: Work out ?

  • i started P90x because my sister had it around. I was told by someone who does a lot of training a few weeks ago that if you want to lose fat quickly lift weights because it burns more fat than cardio and keeps burning the fat longer after you stop.

  • Walk on the treadmill every day I'm not working @ the hospital (I've decided I run around enough while I'm there that I don't need to walk extra), free weights, pushups, wall sits, dips, basically anything I can do outside of a gym & I've been dancing as much as possible.  You could look into ballet work outs...it did wonders for my thighs & hips!  Good Luck Lady!

  • I did Insanity a couple months ago and LOVED IT. I started it again a couple weeks ago which will bring me right up to the wedding. It totally toned my arms, gave me some ab muscles, and slimmed down everything else. I highly recommend it!

    Still here and still fabulous!

  • I was going to the gym but now I'm really honing in on eating better (that's the hardest part!). Since I wont be able to work out for 4-6 weeks, I'm going to have to RELY on eating better. :/

Other than that, I have been doing crest whitestrips which I LOVE! I have also been drinking more water and have done one facial. That, plust I'm PREPPING for my next bikini wax. (lol)

  • Instead of just walking, you and your FI can incorporate sprints too?  When I'm not really feeling super motivated to run, I'll sprint between mailboxes and/or light posts... or walk around my block then sprint up the hill.  It's a great way to burn calories quicker and build up your leg muscles.

I played bball in college and we also used to bend (like a squat) and walk from one side of the gym to the other with a rubber band around our legs.  You could probably get a similar effect by shuffling to the side (need to be in squating position) for 10 steps then switching.  Might look silly in front of your neighbors though ;-)

  • For two years I lost the ability to use my right arm and it went from nice and toned to all flabby.  What sucks about that is my other arm stayed nice and toned!  Ah!!!

I've been trying to tone up the right arm by just doing basic weight lifts at the gym.  I have a 10 pound weight limit for that arm, but I have pushed myself up to 15 pounds.  But I am by no means pushing my comfort zone and still it's starting to look a lot nicer!!!  I at least lost the flab and even though my arms are still uneven it's harder to see with the naked eye.  There's also an excercise I love to do at home where you take a 2 pound weight (or a soup can would work if you don't have weights) and put your arm straight out in front of you with your hand down and then you put tension in your arms and just move the arm rapidly up and down just a few inches each side.  The burn starts on the upper arm almost immediately and has helped with the toning as well.

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.

I know you only asked about exercises for that area and the PPs have given you some good tips! I run 3-4 miles almost everyday and that helps slim everywhere....but let me tell you I carry my extra weight in my hips and thighs and am always trying to lose there. My personal trainer also told me that I couldn't pick and choose where I lose from and i would just have to work hard...

BUT! I lost lots of inches from my hips and thighs (and lower belly area too aka pooch!) by just changing one thing from my diet. Switch to whole grains and no carbs at dinner...

For breakfast I eat whole grain cereal (Think cheerios or fiber one) or a whole grain bagel/toast and for lunch I usually have a sandwich on whole grain bread or some type of whole grain pasta, but for dinner just have the meat and veggies. The hardest thing is just no corn or potatoes.

Let me tell you it melts away and even faster when you are exercising! And it isn't too hard a change! Just make sure everything you buy says 100% whole grain...

I was seriously so amazed at how much extra weight I was carrying around the middle of my body just from too many refined carbs...

I use to work out all the time.. I quit and gained a lot of weight.. FI recently became a diabetic ( I know it just happened, really weird) and he had to change his diet.. He has to count carbs now and take shots..  I thought it would help him if I cut mine out too.  I have lost SO MUCH weight and inches by just counting carbs.  I know it sounds crazy but i have to even go down a dress size.. :(  Luckily wedding dress people were awesome and just ordered me another dress a size smaller..

But if you work out and watch them carbs you would be good..   You dont even have to quit carbs all together b/c you need them for energy but just cut back.  drink lots of water.. AND REMEMBER SODA IS HORRIBLE..
I go by this now  " a moment on the lips is a LIFETIME on the hips"..  lol

    Hope it helps
