Wedding Invitations & Paper

Anyone afraid of RSVP karma?

My mom is terrrrible about sending back RSVPs!  She doesn't do it intentionally, it just slips her mind (mind you, it also slips her mind to send gifts to people too haha).  I'm absolutely terrified that I am going to get my mom's bad RSVP karma, and no one is going to respond out of spite for her unresponsiveness haha! Am I alone?

Oh and PS! She gave people 1 week to RSVP for the shower, and then got so mad when they didn't! I had to giggle!

Re: Anyone afraid of RSVP karma?

  • I always RSVP on time and we had over half of our guests not send their card back.  So I don't believe in RSVP karma.
  • I only have 3 couples left to RSVP but I sent my invites out early. I am ready to call these people myself just so I can continue my planning.

  • I'm pretty bad at RSVPing myself, so I'm worried about my karma...
  • "I am ready to call these people myself"

This is about the best option, I think. I know there are people on my guest list who won't bother to RSVP (so annoying!) so I have just resigned myself to having to call them. At least that way I can be sure of a solid answer for everyone, even if I have to hunt it down and wrestle it out of some people...
  • I have a HUGE guest list so I know that when I send out my invitations I'm a. going to send them out earlier than usual and b. going to have quite a few people who don't RSVP in the designated time span.  Therefore, I am positive that I'll be making phone calls or having my bridesmaids make phone calls for me to get the RSVP's.  I am a high strung person so I know I'll be freaking out about RSVP's when the time comes. Eek, I can't even think about it!
  • I plan on calling people who don't RSVP at least 1 week before the wedding. :)

  • at my brother wedding my whole family didnt rsvp
  • I AM!!!
My big day is 4/24 and I gave everyone until 3/24 to reply back but I wanted them all to come in the mail like the week after I sent them! I'm impatient and do not want to be calling everyone last minute - like we dont have anything else to worry about!!!
  • Our guest list is small, and supposedly only 85% of invitees attend a function.  My fiance and my family know me well enough to know that anyone who doesn't RSVP but shows up will be waving goodbye to us from the dock. To be fair to him, I can't freak over every RSVP not received in the mail because he'll, "Oh I forgot to tell you.  Joe might show up".

    *applauds* You said it!

I have planned other events and have practically developed a set of stomach ulcers from people who don't plan ahead more than two or three days and will NOT commit to something when I'm fronting the money for it. So... I think I will be adopting your attitude for my wedding RSVPs, hahahaha.

    Awesome.
  • I'm horrible about RSVP's, they just slip my mind.  Fortunately, we have had most of our invitees send in their RSVP's.  I would not worry about the karma, if you have invited people who you care about and are concerned about you, they (most of them) will have the respect and courtesy to RSVP.

Because of the advice of other ladies, I realized beforehand that folks just don't RSVP sometimes!  It sucks, but it happens.  Perhaps they feel that they know you well enough that they don't have to respond because they think you'll just assume they will be there.   Ahhh My!  How common courtesy has dissipated these days!
With our invites I enclosed RSVP cards, but I did not include envelopes.  We put our Knot wedding website address on the invites and encouraged people to visit the site.  I am hoping to have a better response via online RSVP in this age of technology.  I figured that I am saving on postage stamps, being that would cost almost a dollar an invite to enclose postage-paid envelopes.  Why waste the money if you won't even get the cards back, right?!
Anyways, we shall see how the response turns out being that I just mailed out my invites this past week!  May your prayers be with me and all you ladies as well!

  • You just never know! Luckily our wedding is not in his home town nor mine. So Im really thinking that if they dont RSVP then they arent making the flight and hotel reservations and wont be there. Im sure a couple people will shock me though.
  • It's not karma, some people are just bad at responding... like my fiance's ENTIRE FAMILY!
  • Yup, my wedding is in 3 weeks and there are still a couple handfuls of people who didnt send their RSVPs and most are my family members!!!!!!! They arent coming anyway but HOW RUDE can you be?! I thought it was just me, so it's nice to know others are experiencing this craziness...
