return address on invitation - can i use labels?

I know it's improper to use labels for the addressee on the invitation, but is it improper to use labels for the return address?

What about buying a custom stamp? Vistaprint sells them for cheap and that would look much nicer.

  • I think cute labels are probably fine, just not the free ones from your college or whatever.

Have you looked into getting a custom address stamp or embosser? I think those can look really nice, and you can keep using it after the wedding. I was going to buy a stamp from Etsy, but we ended up moving right before the wedding so I didn't want to pay for something that would soon be worthless and I just ended up writing the return address by hand.

would love to get something cute for the return address!!  ... i just want to be sure it's not tacky to use a label... i thought maybe it should be handwritten like the invitation itself.

^Nah, it doesn't have to be handwritten. It should just look nice :)

  • I used clear labels.  I'm lazy and cheap.

You can get stamps on Etsy that look hand written. That's what I was going to get. But anyways, nice labels will not be tacky.

  • We did labels from Vistaprint. Had a little monogram in the corner and design along the bottom that matched our invitations. Worked fine!

thanks!!  ... and you handwrite the invitation too then right?  ... and you hand write the rsvp card back to yourself correct?

^I'd stamp the RSVP envelopes too. Or print them directly on the envelope.
    Lizzie
  • Ditto aragx. No need to hand write the RSVP mail-to address. Printing directly on or another stamp/nice label should be fine.

okay thanks so much!!... but I must handwrite the invitation right?  So the invitation address to is the only part that should be handwritten sounds like.
  • I also used the clear labels for mine - but had them wrap around the mailing envelope.  The invitee was on the front and on the back side I had my return address.   Had the USPS take a look and they had no problem with it.

    Looked something like this:
    http://www.i-do-it-yourself.com/2008/09/template-wrap-around-mailing-labels/

I designed mine to match my invitations - and used the clear lables for the inside envelopes as well.  Call me lazy but it looks fab and it all matches the invites!

    That's exactly right!

  • Yes, handwrite the invitation. Stamp return address and RSVP envelope!
