REGISTRY QUESTION

Ok soooooo.....
My FI and I have everything we need. I am not to interested in doing a typical registry (china, etc) however I'm scared to do anything "non-traditional".

The FI and I wanted to register for "fun" things.... like a badmitton set for the backyard, or some camping gear, stuff like that.

Do you think that it's tacky??

I know Target is a place that has everything so I was thinking of going there. My FI and I aren't very traditional.. we march to our own drum so people who know us MIGHT expect something like this. but does it seem selfish? ugh... the age old debate... please give me your thoughts!

Go for it!  I would still put some traditional stuff on there to appease the "old" people, but definitly put some fun stuff on there as well.

I say go for it.  But I agree with Lura.  Mix it up a little bit.  You may not need dishes and small appliances, but you can always use new towels and sheets!

You are so right about the towels and sheets! lol. I think we are going to do it. I like the idea of mixing it up. I will bring it up to the FI. Thanks ladies!

Honestly, I don't think it is tacky at all!  The gifts you are registering for are still things you are going to use to build your lives together so why not.  And like you said, friends and family already know you two are not super traditional so it should not be a big deal.  Go for it :)

I love the idea, so very much!

I would agree, make sure you have some "traditional" stuff.  Have you thought about checking out Williams-Sonoma?  They have cooking tools you would never think of that are so awesome, and fit in both the "fun" and "traditional" category.

Another thing you can do is a honeymoon registry; I know there are places that do it for you, but you do have to pay.  I know Disney offers you a Disneymoon Registry for free, if you are going there (MrsJax did that; guests give in the form of events and items, like "a couples massage" or "a carriage ride".  You are able to use the money on anything you want, but it makes it fun for guests to "pick" something out).  Depending on where you are going for your honeymoon, you might check with your location (like, if it's an All-inclusive) to see if they offer this option too.  Also, sometimes Travel Agents will set them up.

Have you thought about asking guests to do a donation instead of buying you a gift, especially if there is not alot that you need?  I would suggest doing this in conjunction with a regular registry, but this is a great way to get money to your favorite charity.  I Do Foundation is huge into this; the website is below.  If you don't want to do this for your guests to donate, I would still encourage you to do a gift registry through them (basically, when your guests go thru the link online that you provide, the company/store will donate money back to the charity of your choosing).  I listed that website with info second:

Finally, I think Amazon offers a wedding registry.  So do places like EMS, DisneyStore.com, Pampered Chef, REI, etc.  Also, any place that offers a "wish list" can qualify as a registry; just make sure to give your guests the info needed to get to that registry!

I will give one word of caution: I have heard not so good things about Target's registry.  I have heard, from my best friend and from my cousin, that they take things off without notifying, removing items is difficult, etc.

What about Wal-Mart or Macy's?  You might also check out Crate and Barrel (there is one in KOP mall), as I have heard they are like an Ikea and have awesome items.  Pottery Barn?  Sears has tools and lawn type stuff, and both Kohls and JCP have many different items as well.  Remember, there is nothing wrong with registering at different places!

And I will say, Bed Bath and Beyond has a pretty wide selection.  This is coming from the girl who put a Gumby Dog Chew Toy, a Disney Princess collectible figurine, pink luggage for me and orange luggage for him, OrnamentKeepers, and Yankee candles all on her Bed Bath and Beyond registry!
