I FOUND THE GOWN!! sorry its a little long

With the help of my 5 bridesmaids, mother, and future mother in law I found my wedding dress yesterday!! I originally had my heart set on this one maggie sottera dress, and actually scheduled the appointment at the salon because they carried it 2 months ago. I was then highly discurranged when i found out earlier this week they no longer carried it. Surprisingly enough "the dress" I selected ended up only being the 4th one i tried on, followed by many other awful contenders. It also wasn't a maggie which really surprised me. Following my appointment we started the search for bridesmaids dresses and I quickly became overwhelmed. I originally said I wanted to stick to a strick budget for my girls (in my opinion there is no reason for them to spend $$$ on a dress they may only wear for 8 hours and that could potentially not even be something they would traditionally pick for themselves). I also said I wanted a light purple chiffon dress and wasn't interested in satin or dark purples. well don't you know after trying on what seemes like 20 different chiffon light purple dresses, it was quickly obvious that the fabric and color were not going to suit everyone, and mixing wasn't going to work either. Well guess what we eneded with?... short satin plum dresses!! I can't help but feel a little discourgaed because it completely changes my whole vision of the day, but I think i need to keep reminding myself that it wasn't meant to be. The chiffon light purple were more than a $100 more and the satin ones everyone kept raving how comfy they are and how they loved the pockets. Am I wrong to keep 2nd guessing myself, or was it simply the right decision for the group of girls in my party? PS!!!! I also thought I was going to fall on the floor when the woman at the bridal salon told me my dress size. mind you I am 5'4'' and 112 pounds and XS or size 0 generally and keep on a strict exercise routine and only eat junkie for 1-2 meals on weekends and immediately after measuring me she was like "ok sounds good a size 6 should do it then"  waaaaaaa i made her show me the size chart to ensure they were not trying to size me up too much to drive up the cost of alterations and low and behold she was pretty close, I was even borderlining on an 8!!! super despressed bride..need some reinforcement please.

  • Don't be sad. You're the bride everyone loves because you didn't pick dresses all of your friends will be feeling ugly and uncomfortable all night long. Do you like the dresses at all? Remember that wedding dresses are much smaller. Size is just a number. Don't freak out. If you're happy with how you look, the number doesn't matter. My dress is a Mori Lee and is 6 sizes bigger than my street size. 6 sizes bigger based on my street size!!!!! Don't worry. Be Happy. :

  • Wedding dresses are totally off.  I'm always a size 4 or 2, but my dress is a 10!  I had it ordered larger than necessary so that I would have plenty of fabric to change things (I have scoliosis so the zipper and such needed to be adjusted).  I think they measured that I would normally be an 8 in that dress.  It's crazy!

  • Congrats on finding the dress(es)! I agree with PPs that wedding gown sizes definitely run small... I had to get mine three sizes larger. It's way to big cause I lost some weight but everyone keeps telling me it's easier to take it in than let it out. So don't worry about it! :)

  • Im glad you found the dress. What an important accomplishment! And don't worry too much about the bridesmaids dresses. Yes, it may require some adjustments to your vision, but I think youll do great.

As for the sizing, definitely dont stress! The dresses run exceptionally small.

  • I found my dress on Aug 25 but didn't order it for 2 days after. I went into the whole process thinking I wanted a 1-shoulder or v-neck with a fuller skirt (not hoop skirt big). I wound up with a GORGEOUS Maggie Sottero fitted a-line strapless lace number. My body is inbetween sizes where on top I'm an 8-10 and on bottom a solid 12. The sample I tried on was a 14 but pretty tight so I ordered a 16. I have been told it's always easier to take in than let out.

My BM's are in 3 different states and for sake of ease I went with Davids Bridal and picked a color. Plus they are all different body types. Originally I imagined knee length or tea length for them but when I went with my sister (who is bigger than me sizewise and also much bigger in the chest) looked better with a v-neck long flowy chiffon thing so, I have had to let that go. Whatever style they want as long as it's in my color.

  • I had to order a size 10! I measured a 6 waist, 8 bust and 10 hips so they told me I should get the 10. It was a bit shocking but as long I look good in it that's all I care about!

I'm also looking for light purple bridesmaid dresses, but I'm not going until this weekend. Now I'm worried about the color lol. The specific color I want is Victorian lilac, it has a grey tint to it.

</div><div>victorian lilac was the exact same color i was looking for. I was in love with the bill levkoff dresses in that color but the color seemed t owash some girls out and the fabrics were not as flattering either. granite the girls would prob all look better wants they get spray tanned but there was also the concern that the levkoff dresses were $210 vs the $110 at davids. i just have to keep remembering not to stress too much over it, in the end with flowers and the beautiful venue it will all work out. </div>
