September 2012 Weddings

STD's, Marriage counselling and FB wedding talk...

Okay, I can't talk too much wedding on FB because we're keeping our guest list small and I don't want to make anyone feel bad that they're not invited if they catch wind of wedding stuff, so I hope you girls don't mind me gabbing for a moment!

We went to a jeweler today to look at e-ring/band sets because I am just less than thrilled with mine. It's my fault, I picked it out because the price was great for the quality but never felt that it was very "me." So, the set I fell in love with, the style that I had envisioned in my head since the beginning of ever, is about $8000 (at this store anyway.) We agreed that $5k would be our max, maaaaybe $6k if it was amazing, but $8k surprised me. And now, FI has it in his head that he HAS to get me this ring. The way things are now, I can see so many other things that that much money could be put to, but I think he has his mind made up. I felt bad for even LOOKING at other rings, and now I kind of regret ever saying anything at all remotely negative about the ones I have.

BUT, on a happy note, we had our first pre-marriage preperation course at the church this morning and it was really neat. Made me feel all warm and fuzzy, and even though we've been together so long, I still think it'll help our relationship progress and better equip us for the future.

And now, STD's. I wasn't planning on sending them until March (at the 6 month mark) due to the fact that the majority of our guests are in town and will not be travelling so I figured they didn't need much of a heads up.In the past couple weeks, I have already had a few people express surprise at the date and suggest that I get STD's out sooner since that's a big travel time. Since FI and I don't travel AT ALL, I had no clue! So, now I'm working on getting the guest list and addresses and everything together and it's so perfectly summed up in my siggy pic below. lol

Sorry that this is so long, but FI is all wedded out today and FB isn't an option! Thanks for the 'ears' ladies! How are y'alls wedding 'resolutions' coming along so far?

  • Do you have a pic of the rings? I'd love to see them :)

I'm looking forward to our marriage prep. My FI's pastor is a great guy and even tho I'm roman catholic, I have no issues getting married in his church; it kinda feels like home more than mine now. I think we'll learn a lot in those classes. Glad you got all those butterflies - so fun!

As for the STDs, I'd say get them out sooner too. When do you plan on sending invites? September is actually becoming a much busier time of year here for travel and weddings so I can see their point. I sent ours out in December, and the invites will most likely go out in April/May before everyone starts summer holidays and such. We also want to allow enough time for potential additional invitations to be sent.

  • I understand what you mean about the ring situation.  Keep in mind though you have to wear them forever...so you really need to make sure you love what you have.  My FI had my e ring designed and made in NYC and I wanted to find a wedding band that I loved at a jewelry store nearby but nothing I've tried on I have even remotely liked with my e ring.  My FI is calling the jeweler in NYC today to make an appointment for us to do down and have the band designed to match.  I feel a little guilty bc it'll be more expensive but I don't want to have any regrets in a few years about it!

  • I really enjoyed our marriage prep classes, as did FI! We were almost disappointed when they were over, it came to be something that we looked forward to each Wed night lol
  • I can totally understand anout the guest list crapola. Thank god we're not sending STDs so I ca fret/procrastinate a little longer. =P As for the bands... maybe you could sell the one(s) you have to make a little to put towards new ones? I agree that it's nice to have the cheaper ones, but you'll have to wear this ALOT so you need to love it =)

My resolutions? Blah. I can't find a DJ to save my ever loving life. We're trying to get a hold of the guy that's going to do ctaering, but we can't find his number (and bright FI didn't think to save it). SMH.

What's your date?  If it's Labor Day weekend, I definitely agree.

Just because you saw it on Four Weddings, doesn't mean it's a good idea.

  • If most of your guests aren't traveling, then I still think sending the STDs out in March is fine. I've never heard of Sept as being a "busy travel time" (other than Labor Day), but I don't do much traveling so who knows.

I think we're pretty much done designing our STDs. We're going to look at them again on Thursday and make any last adjustments, then hopefully order them by this weekend.

  • I didn't even think about Labor Day, but I just googled it and our date is the 15th so it's not close. Whew...lol

We are thinking about selling the rings I have to offset the cost of any new ones, but it's intimidating to sell them not knowing if we'd be able to get/afford new ones in time. This first pic is the set I have, and the second pic is the closest to what I want that I could find on Google, but the set I love has a little bit thinner bands and the center stone is 1.20-1.25 carats. It's an Asscher cut. I don't know why, but I love that cut sooo much.

  • You could always keep the rings you have and upgrade in the future when you can more easily afford them. It is fairly common to upgrade rings on anniversaries.
  • Have you considered a Moissanite center stone?  They're a fraction of the cost of a diamond and look just as nice.  You could buy the setting you like and just switch out the center stones.
