Newbie Question

Hi Ladies!  I am mostly a lurker on this board, but am getting married 4 weeks from tomorrow and need a little help.

My Fiance and I live in GA, and attend church here, but are getting married in the church I grew up in, which is in NY.  We completed all of our Marriage Prep through our church here, and they sent it off to the Archdiocese in Atlanta, to then be sent to the Archdiocese in NY, to be sent to my church.

Has anyone had a similiar experience like this, and if so how long did it take for your paperwork to make its way to the final destination?

Thanks for the help!

no experience with the pre-cana stuff, but i did have to have my baptism cert sent from VT to MA - took about a week.    interestingly, it took H's longer to go from his church to our church - and it was all within the same diocese.  his took about a month.

We were in the same boat. We currently live in GA, but got married in central Ohio. We did all of the marriage prep here and our priest here was in correspondance with the priest that married us. It didn't take but a week or so for him to receive it, look it over to  make sure he had everything he needed and respond to our priest here that we were good to go.

I would just stay on top of things and you should be fine. Will you be able to stop in or speak with the priest that is marrying you in NY before the wedding at all?

We did prep in Ohio but got married in St. Louis.  However, we just gave our priest copies of the certificates ourselves, so there was no middleman.

I was in the same boat.  I did pre-cana in Colorado, but got married in Ohio.  The paperwork seemed to transfer very quickly, within about a week or two.  I remember it being pretty trivial for me.

My church here in GA sent the paperwork to the Archdiocese of Atlanta on April 7th and the secretary at my church doesn't seem to think that it is an issue that it hasn't arrived yet.  I am just worried that it is lost somewhere.

Which church are you referring to? The church in GA or NY? I would probably try calling the priest that is going to marry you in NY and ask him if you should be worried and if this is typical.

We also had no middleman. We gave our priest here all of the paperwork we were required to fill out along with our baptismal certificates. After he signed off on what he needed to do, he sent it right along to the priest that married us.
