Seating chart frustrations!

So this weekend my FI and I put together our ceremony that our Reverend gave us.  Got a little more excited with that then I thought.  At first I was dreading it because I kind of just wanted the Rev. to surprise us and do his thing...but the more we did the more we "customized" our ceremony and made it our own.  Very cool....

Now I am working on our seating chart and this is giving me the biggest headache and stress yet.  I HATE doing seating charts and feel like it's very "old school".  I don't like telling people where they have to sit like they're children.  Drives me crazy.  It was almost a deal breaker to me, but FI convinced me otherwise.  Now, I'm trying to figure out where to put people so no one is upset they are sitting by someone else.  ARGH I don't like this....  Anyone else dealing with this?  Ideas?

Re: Seating chart frustrations!

  • The knot seating chart program is very easy to use, which made the whole process a lot easier. I am trying to pair family with family, friends with friends, work peopke with work people and kids with kids. Not going completely flawless. I have a few extra people that I need to fit in, but I haven't got all the rsvp's back yet so hopefully that will help once I have them all. I am only doing assigned tables not assigned chairs.

  • I agree, The Knot's seating chart is very helpful.  I wish it would just do the whole thing for me and just let me know!

  • I have been using TK seating chart, it's very helpful! I am still debating if I will actually go through with it for the reception but we will see, we will only have about 100 guests and they are not the norm in my area.

I think it's okay not to have one if you have under 100 people and you have some tables reserved for family.

  • I am not going a seating chart mainly for this reason! And FI is very against them (he thinks having assigned anything is very stuffy).

Good luck to all of you! I am sure it will come out just fine as all of you seem to be putting a lot of thought and effort into it.

  • we're doing seating charts just because we have a lot of families with a lot of kids and i wanted to make sure everyone had a seat together with their family when they sat down for dinner.  after that i don't care where everyone moves to.

i'll have to check out theknot's seating chart... except the knot is really pissing me off today, so it'll have to wait.

  • We have gone back and forth over doing assigned seating. Gives me a headache, and it's just frustrating. I think we will end up just having reserved tables for our immediate family and be good.
