Caterer/Alcohol

I'm getting married at a venue that lets you choose your own caterer. Does anyone know if most caterers require you to buy alcohol through them, or can you usually buy it elsewhere and either have them serve it or hire your own bartender? I'd prefer to buy the alcohol separately. Any recommendations for caterers that let you do this?

Thanks for any ideas :-)

I called one caterer (Im very early in the planning process, so I have not done a full search at all) that said they are willing to provide the licensed bartender for $30 per hour if you wanted to purchase your own alcohol to serve.  The only thing is they are way up rt 70, found them when I was looking at a barn passed Frederick but decided that venue was too far.  Of course they do travel and they have tables and chairs to rent.  Leiters Fine Catering.  If you check out their prices, they are quite reasonable, though you do have to rent the glasses and flatware individually.

All the caterers I met with, if I remember correctly, had the option of us providing the alcohol for their bartenders or just going with one of their packages.  They don't lose any money by doing this, they'll still charge a cover per person of $5 or so, so I think it's rare for a caterer to NOT let you do this.
