Recommendations on Bridal Dress Salon

Hi Ladies...I'm hoping to get some help for reccomendations on where to go to start looking for my dress in Chicago.

I have an appointment for September 25th at Eva's in Orland Park, but to be honest some of the yelp reviews have me SCARED!!  I don't know many people that have been wedding dress shopping that can give me reviews so I'm hoping to get some from all of you.

Where have you gone, where do you reccommend and what places do you suggest that I stay far away from?

Please help!  lol

What style are you looking for?  Or price point?

    Venus909,
First of all let me tell you that i loved loved loved your color scheme, your destination, your monogram, ect!  Great job on the STD and bridesmades cards!  But I wanted to ask you what is the first dress in your plannin bio is?!?! I fell in love with it!

As for style...I'm not exactly sure..  I'm thinking a line or fit and flare, stapless,..  honestly I'm all over the board.. haven't even tried a dress on yet.

As for price point.  I would like to stay under 2k... the most I would be willing to spend on a dress is 3k and I'd have to absolutely be head over heels for it and not be able to imagine myself in something else...

@gabrielyte - Thank you sooo much!  I appreciate your compliments..

The first dress in my bio is Maggie Sottero's Felisha...  I'm in love with that dress too and I'm searching for a store in chicago that carries the sample to try on...  Actually all the dresses in my bio are Maggie dresses....  I have an obsession...lol...

I don't know if you want to venture out to the burbs but I got my dress at Kathryns Bridal in Mchenry. They have a lot to choose from and most of their dresses are under 3,000.

Try Priscilla of Boston in Oak Brook (just because they are closing.)

I went to The Bridal Boutique in Naperville and it was amazing.  For 2k, you could probably buy any dress in her shop.  I tried on a St. Pucchi.  Of course, I couldn't zip it up but, you know, I tried it.  I ended up getting my dress here.

My top 5 favorite dresses (I tried on about 25!) came from White Satin Bridal in Plainfield and La Joli Mode in Oak Lawn. I ended up at La Joli Mode. All the dresses I tried un were under $1,500. I liked both because I was able to walk through and pick out myself. I went to David's and Eva's, (both Orland) and neither would let me pick out, the consultant would just bring some to me. I didn't love that.

I really loved Catherine Simms of Naperville. They are a smaller boutique but carry good lines. Also, if you really are interested in a Maggie, go onto the Maggie Sottero website and find the locations near you that carry Maggie's. Unfortunately there are not a lot of shops in the area that carry the line.

All I can tell you if that reviews don't always mean that is what will happen to you. I went to House of Brides Schaumburg location and a lot of mixed reviews but the reviews are way off from what happen with me.  I picked the dresses I liked from the rack and tried them on.  the selection is huge.  all i can say is go with how you feel.  I bought my dress at House of Brides because it was everything I wanted after about 20 dresses.  So far so good.  I also know that Here Comes the Bride in Addison is a great shop too.  best of luck you know what you want go with it.

Thank you for the great suggestions ladies!  I will definitely look into some of these shops...  I knew picking out a wedding dress wasn't going to be easy, but I never imagined it would be like this...lol

Let me just say that the reviews about Eva's in Orland are pretty accurate. I can personally tell you some horror stories and every time I've gone in there, they have an angry customer of some sort. I went to Davids as well as House of Brides but the dress I fell in love with is a limited version gown that only Eva's has ability to order. The second it comes in, I will be storing it somewhere else and having my alterations done elsewhere. If you decide to still go, make sure your appointment is with Naomi. She's the best person they have working there.

I don't want to scare you off...I just want to give you a heads up. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I have no issues in the next few months...and I'd hate to see someone else have a bad experience.

Good luck on your search!!!!! Make sure you have fun with it. And don't take on too much in one day. For some reason I thought it would be a good idea to hit all 3 shops in one day.

I have to agree with PP about the reviews for Orland. I went there and the service was TERRIBLE. My friend had to help me put on the dresses with the dress lady nowhere to be found. She kept bringing out dresses that I had said I didn't want (ie trumpet style) and my friend got so mad at her because she kept calling me by another name. I ended up going to the Crystal Bride last night in downtown Geneva. It's a bit of a hike, but it was SO worth it! She really helped me out and was so patient and wonderful! I would go there again in a heartbeat!

One of my best friends purchased her dress from Eva's in Orland. It was a nightmare for her to actually get her dress. They told her in would be  ready for pick-up in 8 months (which would have been plenty of time) then around the 9 month mark she tried calling. She would get hung up on, put on hold then no one would come back, excuses, ect. Finally around the 13-14 month mark she finally got her dress. She would have been fine waiting a little extra time if only someone there would have been honest about what was really going on.

Anyway, when it was my turn, there was no way I'd step foot into that salon (and I'm from the Orland area so it would have been convienent!) I ended up going to a few other places- I loved loved LOVED Crystal Bride in Geneva. I got my dress from there (ordered it a week ago) and they carry Maggie Sottero too. They went way out of their way to make sure I was happy. I'm basically so obsessed with them, that I want to make sure I get my BM dresses from there too!

    Good Luck!

I'm so glad to hear the reviews about Crystal Bride... I was considering going there as well.

I have an appt for Sunday at Kathyrn's in McHenry and if I don't find my dress there, I will take the drive to Geneva.

I will be staying far away from Eva's in Orland!

    I'm excited now....  :-)

YES, YES, YES to Crystal Bride.  I got my Maggie dress there and have had a fantastic experience with them so far.  A huge selection, very friendly and accomodating.  I've been working with Heather and I highly, highly recommend her.

    Have so much fun!

I've also worked with Heather at Crystal Bride.. loved her too!! I basically had my eye on "Evelyn" and Maggie Sottero dress. They didn't have the sample but could have brought it in for me to try on if I wanted. That day though, Heather basically took another dress (by Casablanca) and made it look like the Evelyn. She was genius. My mom, friend, and I actually thought what she did looked better! So, we joke that Heather basically customized a dress for me. I ended up going with the Casablanca dress and using all of Heather's ideas. It's definitely worth the trip out there!!

Good Luck and Have Fun dress shopping!!

Try Eva's of Tinely Park. I got my ysa makino gown from them. They were patient and helpful. They are not affiliated with Eva's of Orland. I had a VERY BAD EXPERIENCE at EVAS OF ORLAND. DO NOT SHOP THERE!!!!!!!!! They tried to sell me a torn veil. They put me in a room filled with dresses and told me to pick the gowns I liked. They gave me 3 clips and left me to myself. I could have walked out with a gown because they totally ignored me
