August 2012 Weddings

Anyone else on easy street?

I've had a hiccup or worry here or there, but I feel like wedding planning has been a breeze!  Everything seems to be falling into place (too) easily.
A lot of people looked at us like we were crazy when we got engaged and then announced the wedding would be in 6 months.... but I haven't felt rushed or stressed in the least bit.
Is anyone else truly enjoying the wedding planning process?

Re: Anyone else on easy street?

  • I didn't enjoy the guest list but other than that we've been on easy street, too.  Booked most of our vendors in the first two weeks, picked my dress on the first trip, went with almost the first of each vendor we looked at.  If you are organized and you find availability, I think it can go smoothly.  I'll find myself in planning mode for a few days, then I walk away from it for months.  I think once you start looking into details, you might need to think about it more.  Now we are wondering what songs we want on our must-play list, if we want to buy any candles for the venue, and things like that.
  • I enjoyed it for awhile - until I couldn't decide on colors.  Then I started stressing because I couldn't decide and I felt like colors were important to me.  Ever since then, my mood has changed & I felt more stressed.  Luckily I went on vacation for a week with NO wedding thoughts and I feel I'm back to my old self - looking forward to the small things I have left to do.  And really, what is the most terrible thing that could be overlooked?  We have someone to marry us & that's the reason for the wedding, so I think we're good to go!

  • It's been pretty awesome, I really enjoy it! I had the minor hiccup when my MOH stepped down, and then she stepped back up :) Now we are into the fun little details of diy decorations. But for the most part everything major is complete! I have had my dress for 4 years now, so that big payment was already covered. And i just got confirmation for the photographer and the pastor, we will be starting our counseling here soon!!!! OH and Fi's ring came in today so we will pick that up over the weekend!!! :)

    So excited for August!

  • I have a very similar situation, we got engaged in Mid December and are getting married August 3. We didn't have a lot of indecision in the process. We looked at 1 venue, 1 photographer, 1 dessert option. Friends have commented on how much we have accomplished in a short period of time. Weddings can be planned in short periods of time. My sister planned her wedding in 3 months. Since we are so ahead with wedding stuff we decided to buy a house :)

  • Yep, haven't been stressed at all.  Everyone scoffs at me like it's yet to hit... I doubt that very much, basically everything is done except I have to order and print and assemble invitations and mail them.  They're already designed.  That's it!

We literally have everything else.  Sure, there's a few pre-wedding meetings, but I don't see it being an issue.  Part of it is I've planned events in my career for 3-4x as many people, and my parents have also made this incredibly easy - a set budget, no real strings attached, and very helpful as they're local to the wedding site and I'm not.

We've been engaged almost a year now, and when we get married it will have been 17 months of engagement.  Some people thought we were nuts, but we got every vendor we wanted - they were all available, and we got last year's prices.  And I've been super relaxed.

I just keep saying, "It's a party.  What matters is the wedding."  When something isn't exactly what I wanted or envisioned, I just say, "It's just a party" and it does make it all a bit more in perspective.

  • I'm trying to be on easy street as much as possible. I know people probably look at me like i'm crazy when I say I want to be done with planning months before the wedding but that is my goal. I know little details will pop up, but i'm the type of person who likes to be WAY ahead of the game. I visited 2 venues before I chose my venue (which was actually the first one i saw). I tried on 3 dresses before I chose mine. My shoes, i just saw them one day at the mall and knew I had to have them. My invites are sent out already, cake ordered, procession/recession music chosen. Now we're on to the little details (seating arrangements once we get rsvps back, order of events, etc.) and looking forward to skating through those too.

I'm trying as much as possible to not be a psycho about this whole wedding planning thing lol. I don't need it taking over my life or stressing me out. For the most part things have gone pretty smoothly.
