Vendor Reviews July 2010

LIke many other brides, I found the vendor reviews to be the most helpful posts on this board and thought I would share.

Photographer: Amy Dykens: A+
My fiance and I really liked her photos online and booked her for the wedding without meeting her. At times she was a little slow getting back to emails and I quickly started to freak out thinking I had made a mistake. As soon as we did the engagement sessions, I was put at ease. Amy quickly made us feel comfortable and has a real passion for what she does. She got all of the family photos we asked for and then got us to the cocktail hour with time to spare. She made it priority that we enjoy our wedding.

Hair and Make-Up: Lisa George: A+
Last summer when I was looking for hair and make-up all I heard about was Lisa George, but was a little surprised with how much she cost. It is well worth it. I am not one to think I am "pretty" but on my wedding day I looked gorgeous. It is also great that she comes to you with her assistants.

Flowers: Lilacs: A+
They were Amazing! I wanted my bridesmaids to have an all green bouquet. When I had talked to other florists about this they seemed a little nervous. When I sat down with Karen she was extremely excited to create the arrangements and did not pressure me to go over my budget.

DJ: Danny Walsh: A-
I don't know if I messed up the time, but when I went to meet him he had double booked another couple. He also made some comments about my desire to do a dollar dance. The day of the wedding however he was great. All of my guests were happy with the music choices and he really knows how to read the room.

Ceremony and Receptions: Wequassett: A-
Let me start by saying the venue is gorgeous and my guests (and my husband and I) are still talking about how amazing they thought it was. My husband and I are big foodies and Wequassett did not disappoint. They even let us add an appetizer to the menu for no extra cost. Everything was delicious. The wait staff was superb and also made sure I had a drink in hand.
I feel like I am being a little hard on them by giving them an A-, but let me explain. Every time I told someone I was getting married at Wequassett that would talk about Kalson (sp?). I have heard so many great things about him and would have to tell people that no we were originally working with Amy and later Rene. Rene was very detail oriented and leading up to the wedding was very helpful. He always got back to us right away and helped coordinate other events throughout the week. The day of the wedding however he was no where to be seen. I did see him briefly when he showed us the reception room, but I was expecting him to check in on us before the ceremony. While I don't know what I missed out on I just felt that after hearing everyone rave about their experience something was off. I found out later that there was a huge wedding later that night and maybe that explained things. Rene did send champagne and strawberries to our room with a lovely card.

Hotel (night before and night of the wedding): Wequassett: A+
While I booked a garden view we were given a water room and it was amazing. This is a true 5-star resort and we were treated like royalty.

Rental House: Pretty Picky Properties: A+
We spent the week with our bridal party in Orleans. The house was amazing and a great value. If we had any questions or problems someone was sent right over. The company only has a few properties so they really take care of their renters.

Cake: Delicious Desserts: A+
I love Lisa and I loved our cake. The chocolate with peanut butter frosting was the most delicious dessert I have ever eaten and I am a HUGE chocolate person.

All in all our wedding day was perfect. I truly feel that we had the top-tier vendors on the cake. By keeping the wedding small and getting married on Saturday morning we were able to have the best but still keep the wedding within budget. I would highly recommend everyone we worked with. As my husband likes to joke, we need to get divorced so we can get married again, that was amazing.

Good luck to all of the Cape brides. You have made a great decision having your wedding out on the Cape.

Congrats!  Sounds like you had a wonderful time!  We didn't go with Lisa from Delicious Desserts for budgetary reasons but I loved meeting her too - such a lovely and endearing woman - and yes, delicious cake!

I had similar experience with Danny Walsh, i felt as though he had a lot of "comments" regarding our music requests....to the point where I was like thinking I had made the wrong decision...and then day of he played everything we wanted and more and did a great job....think he just needs to be a little more open minded with brides....and open to their suggestions/requests. not everyone wants the standard wedding playlist.
