  My dd's five bridesmaids all ordered theirs online from J Crew during a 30% off sale without trying them on, paying between $55 - $70 each.  They turned out great - dd said pick any dress you want in bright hydrangea (now discontinued).  Two picked one style, three another.
  The dresses are silk and very well made - much better quality than anything from David's Bridal or the Dessy Group.
  
  If you go this route, they have to order fast, though, because the sizes vaporize.

  We ordered bridesmaid dresses online from JCrew. Everyone just ordered their normal size that they would wear in JCrew clothing.
  
  One bridesmaid did have to return hers because it was a bit tight, and she did so in-store with no problems. We then ordered her the next largest size online. It was fast and easy!

  We just ordered dresses from J. Crew this past week. My MOH is the only one who has received hers so far and she raved about the quality and the color.  We paid half price for the dresses with the 30% off.
  
  I will second the need to rush, because we almost couldnt get one size in the dress.

  Also, yes, two of my girls went to stores that carry the wedding stuff- one went to the Boston store and the other went to the Atlanta store.  The other two girls measured themselves and ordered via the 1800 number.

  My other suggestion would be to order each girl 2 sizes upfront if they're not familiar with what size they might wear at JCrew. It is super easy to do returns, I promise!
