Feelings about videographer?

My fiance and I have been back and forth numerous times about whether or not we should have a videographer.  Half of the married couples we know say "Absolutely!  You'll need it or you'll regret it" and half say that it's a waste of money.  We are both indifferent towards having one and don't necessarily understand the NEED-- however, we do not want to regret our decision.  What was your experience?

you'll probably watch it 5 times in your lifetime.

we werent going to have one, but then we realized my family is so hilariously italian, that all of the dancing and general rowdyness MUST be preserved on tape for all time. =)

we dont need fancy editing -- just an account of the day, so we'll probaly try to find a film student to do it for us.

I'm not married yet, but we hired one for ceremony only. We didn't want to pay for the whole day to be videotaped and we felt the ceremony and vows were most important to us. It's something I'd like to be able to watch over the years or show to my kids and what not. I also want to be able to see the moments I will miss--mom walking down the aisle, WP walking in, etc.

I think a video is important! I was just at a wedding last weekend where it would have been so much fun to capture audio as well as photos from the fun at the receptioin. All the girls got together and danced on the tiny dance floor and the guys all sang a chillingly awesome song from a summer camp they all worked at.

Is it cost you're  most worried about? A really good friend of mine is going with a handheld video company, like a flip camera one. She said they're called Storymix Media and their prices are suuuuuuper reasonable. Like ridiculously low :) There are other companies she said but they have the most video samples and the price wasn't outstanding. Here's a link to their website :) Check them out! weddings.storymixmedia.com

Thank you all for sharing your feelings!  Chloe - I am looking into the Storymix Media now.  Looks like a great idea!
