Odd question about annulments

If an Episcopalian (high) man has a formal annullment from his marriage, does that suffice in the Catholic church?

While one priest I asked said it would be just a formality to apply & receive the Catholic annulment, another priest said he would have to start from scratch with the Catholic annulment.

btw, the first priest said that high Episcopalian is very much like Catholic with pretty much the same requirements, hence the ease of the Catholic annulment.

I did google this but didn't get very far.

Thanks

He will have to obtain this from the Catholic diocese.  Called Lack of Form.  Google your diocese "e.g. Atlanta diocese" then look for Lack of Form.  It's basically something that your Priest will have to sign off on and you (or him) will have to send into the diocese.

I'm assuming he wasn't married in the Catholic church, yes?

Not enough info... would have to know if his ex-wife was Catholic.

On the surface,  This is NOT lack of form. Lack of form is when a Catholic marries outside the church. The church believes that all non-Catholics can validly enter into marriage. The Catholic tribunal has to investigate. If in fact the episcopla annulments use the same critieria, then you have an idea of the potential outcome, but it still must be investigated.

If she was Catholic, and they married outside the church, THEN it would be lack of form.

I would call the local tribunal in the diocese where the person lives, or where the marriage took place, or where the intended marriage will take place. I find they have the best answers to questions, since they deal with annulments all the time.
