Marriage Licence stuff

Good Morning Ladies :)

Which city is the cheapest city to get the marriage license?  What kind of questions do they ask you (I heard they ask your parents date of birth and your mom's maiden name - is that correct)

Any surprises during the process?

    The price doesn't vary by city, since you're getting an Ontario marriage license, not a city marriage license.

    Check on your cities website for the forms you need to fill out.  Everything they need to know is there, and filling the form out ahead of time saves time in the office.

    We got our license in Oakville and made an appointment to go in.  They prefer it that way there, so check ahead.

    Weirdly, the prices do differ slightly by city (I just did a random check... it's $145 in Owen Sound, $153 in Ottawa vs. $130 in Toronto and Hamilton), but anyway, I doubt that you'll save enough money to make it worth the hassle to travel very far. Just pick it up where it's most convenient.

    The City of Pickering website says you can get it there for $100... although it's also dated 2001.

    It's $125 in Richmond Hill.

    I think Pickering is more than that now - I had a friend get married there last year.  Either way, you are really only saving probably $20 from city to city.  Just make it easy on yourself and do it close to home.  

    Only one of you needs to go, in Toronto at least, but make sure to bring the completed and signed form, and the other's ID (driver's license, passport, or birth certificate).  FI went for us last month in the morning on a Friday and didn't wait at all.

    Generally speaking the smaller the town, the cheaper it is. If it's convenient to you, find a nearby small town and get it there. My home town of Aylmer charges on $85, but I'd rather have a certificate signed by my sister who works at the City of St. Thomas, where it costs $100.

    You can go to most cities' websites and view how much it would cost there, as well as any other information on what to bring, etc.
