I'm a nurse and one of my patients last night was an HIV+ gentleman. To keep it simple I'll just say that I was exposed to some body fluid and though both the ED doctor and the MD at the PEP line have both said that I have less than a 1% chance of contracting the disease I should still take the prophylactic medication.
My FI was fantastic and supportive this morning when I got home and told him, but I'm so scared for what this means for us and our future. We were hoping to try for a baby right after the wedding, which obviously can't happen now. We have to use condoms for protection for at least six months.
Just say a little prayer for me here or there that I can tolerate the side effects of the medication and that all the tests come back negative.
