Re: show me your menu ~Please....

  • We are doing a buffet (BBQ) I think I am going to make a huge chalkboard sign with what is being served. I am on a limited budget so printing menu's seemed like a waste to me.

We're having a buffet for our formal at-home reception. It's at our favourite vegan restaurant and they mostly serve Asian cuisine. We'll have two starters, spring rolls and salty "chicken" strips. Then there will be white rice and seven entrees: ginger "beef," Mongolian "chicken," yellow curry "mutton," sweet and sour "pork," two veggie dishes, and a noodle dish. I think two or three of the options are gluten-free. Following that, there will be fruit for dessert, and later on we'll have our vegan cheesecake--so yummy! No menu cards on tables--we'll just have labels on the buffet.

Our informal reception, right after the ceremony, will be a Mennonite "faspa" (light supper). There will be buns with cheese and coldcuts, potato salad, and pastries. We'll also have cake and cookies. I'm so excited!
  • We are doing stations, so we will have a grilled vegetable station, a Caesar salad station, a pasta station (2 kinds of sauces and pasta), a prime rib station and a baked ham station.

We will also have butler passed hors d'Oeuvres for the first half an hour.
  • So far for our menu we have as appetizerish items fruit, cheese/crackers, sausage dip with tortilla chips (so delicious-didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did).  Then we have a salad with two dressings to choose from, grilled chicken with the choice of two dipping sauces, a mashed potato bar with five different toppings, green beans almondine, and rolls.  Then the basic tea, water and lemonade.  We're thinking of addding a couple of food items like a spinach artichoke dip, tortellini in an alfredo sauce, and possibly thai chicken lettuce wraps.  We wanted a variety of items that we liked and think our guests will really enjoy.

I haven't really thought about listing the menu anywhere but if the caterers don't provide any little signs then I will probably just make one for the buffet table to save a little money.  I figure people will know what most of the food is but I will need little signs for the dressings for the salad and for the chicken.  I'll figure it out more when I talk to our caterers.
  • We are doing a buffet, and similar to Kristin, I am probably going to make/buy a chalkboard, and write the menu on that (we bought chalkboard spray paint the other day and are going to try it out tonight).

    Our menu is below
Passed Hors D'Oeuvres during our cocktail hour:
Herb goat chese and kalmata olives on rosemary crostini
French brie & raspberry en croute
Coconut chicken skewers with mango sauce
Ahi-tuna, wasabi, and black sesame tartare on a won ton crisp
Smoked salmon with chilled English cucumber, creme fraiche, microgreens, and citrus infused virgin olive oil

Plated salad, which will be served:
Baby spring mix with grilled pears, carmalized walnuts, cherry tomatoes, dried cranberries, crumbled goat cheese, and champagne vinaigrette

    Dinner (buffet style)
    Pan seared polenta triangle
Grilled veggies with lemon rosemary zest
Chicken breast stuffed with grilled asparagus, swiss chese, parmesan cheese, and roasted garlic cream sauce
Herb crusted beef tenderloin with porcini mushrooms and merlot wine reduction
Ravioli filled with portobella mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes, ricotta cheese, and basil

Dinner rolls and butter at each table

    Coffee and Tea

Ours isn't completely filled out in the appetizer portion because we still have to pick a few selections, that's why there is a large empty space near the top. We're also doing a buffet, but I really like the look of menu cards, so I think we're doing one at each place setting. The norm here is to leave the buffet open all night and people eat whenever they want--most people don't even have a seat for each person. We're doing it differently though. Each person will have a seat, tables will be called to the buffet by table number, and at one point every person will be seated and eating.

ETA: That is not our monogram, but the William Arthur site doesn't change it from the sample until you get it printed!

  • We aren't doing one. Our food is pretty easy to identify. We are doing a BBQ buffet. We have a few options that are special for some people with food restrictions, and they will have nice labels on them. (Dairy-free garlic mashed potatoes and vegetarian baked beans.)
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • Since our caterers will be there to serve, we aren't doing menu cards.  We are going cajun buffet.  Apps: Fruit and cheese tray and Boudin balls. Main: Chicken & Sausage Gumbo, Chicken Jambalaya, Crawfish Etoufee, shrimp and grits, cajun roast pork, new potatos, and corn. For dessert: Bread pudding and cake. Our cake will look like a crawfish boil!
  • We are having a local family owned restaurant cater.  It wiill be fried chicken,  mashed potatoes, and green beans.  Drinks will be lemonade, tea, coffee, and sodas.  We will have veggie trays for appetizers.
  • We don't have our menu completely figured out yet but we will be doing a sign at the beginning of the buffet so everyone will know what is available.

  • Everyone's menu sounds delicious my stomach is growling! Um can I be the unofficial taste tester for everyone's wedding, I don't want yall to taste any nasty food so I will take one for the team!!!
  • We're hosting a dessert reception. We're not doing menues, we're using chalkboards to describe the sweets as guests file through buffet style.
